VA caregiver program

Hello. I know this has been a long thread.

My wife was just approved as my caregiver at tier 3. We are currently displaced from our home due to some issues that are getting fixed, so I only have access to mobile devices and cannot get the stipend calculator tool to work. I've been trying for hours with no luck.

Im hoping someone here could help me out and post the tier 3 stipend for zip 02809.

Thank you
Indeed, congratulations to your wife for acceptance as your Caregiver within the Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers’ Program via the DoVA. :D

Unfortunately, it seems that the online new SCAADL Calculator hasn't self-corrected itself at this point in time nor have I received any feedback from reaching out to several other organizations for assistance. :(

Hopefully, other PEB Forum members are experiencing favorable results when engaging the online new SCAADL Calculator and can assist you with providing your requested feedback. Take care!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Best Wishes!

Thanks for trying warrior. I think I figured it out.
My memory of SCAADL is they use the bureau of labor and statistics mean hourly wage of 75th percentile for home health aides from your geographical area.
http://myarmybenefits.us.army.mil/H...vities_of_Daily_Living_(SCAADL).html?serv=148

The VA says they use home health aide bls code 311011 home health aide hourly wage multiplied by the number of hours each week (10 hours tier 1, 25 hours tier 2, 40 hours tier 3) multiplied by the average number of weeks in a month (4.35).
http://www.va.gov/purchasedcare/docs/pubfiles/factsheets/factsheet_11-02.pdf

Using this info I was able to use the bls custom table maker to show the info for my specific area. And I think figured out a pretty close amount.
http://data.bls.gov/oes/search.jsp?data_tool=OES

For my area, the home health aide 75th percentile mean hourly wage for 02809 is $14.46.

$14.46 X 40 (hours) X 4.35 (average weeks per month) = $2516.04

I'm sure it's a screwed up way of figuring it out, but maybe it will help others looking for the info since the tool isn't working.

Indeed, you are welcome! :)

Good job with the SCAADL calculations for a DoVA Caregiver's monthly stipend amount!

As such, it shall definitely assist others who may want to self-calculate their own SCAADL entitlements via the DoVA Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers’ Program. Take care!

Hey all,

I've read all the posts about the caregiver program. I'm in the process of being reviewed for approval but there's something I'm confused about. If the program is meant to be temporary, what does the VA do with people who are NOT expected to get better? I'm 100% PT IU and I'll be surprised if I am able to improve to a point where I won't need assistance (who doesn't want to get better?). Has anyone been on the program for at least a few years? What were the reviews like if the medical team knew there was no expectation of improvement?

Thanks!
Ron

Hello all,
I applied for the Caregiver Program and received a call from the coordinator yesterday saying we were denied. Reason given was that my husband , though being seen by VA PTSD Clinic and on meds, he's not really progressing. They want him in a therapy program.
I'm soooo confused. He's 100% TDIU, 70% for PTSD. He was just medically retired for this also. I have been dealing with this since his return from Afghanistan in 2009. I run the household, take care of all his needs and work part-time I've never sled for anything for myself but read about this program here, it seemed like a godsend.
I plan on appealing but I'm so tired of jumping through hoops to get any kind of help. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How is everyone? I have some question about the caregiver program. I have been rated 90% disable and with 50% Ptsd and 50% sleep apena. I spoke with the people in the care giver program and they told me that my wife and I would qualify. I have been going to the VA clinic now for a year and I have been giving me medicine and I have been receiving counseling. But im not on a therapy plan, could this effect my Tier or my qualification for receiving this service?

I recieved a phone call from the caregiver program today. and they told me my wife should expect a call next week. Is there any advice that any one can give me as far as the phone call to her and also with the appoint that me and her will have to attend?

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Well, my tenure on the VA Family Caregiver Program was filled with an In-home assessment every 90 days, and an Annual In-home assessment also. An Outreach RN comes directly to your place of residence to ask a series of questions. Then, he/she would take your height and weight measurements to include obtaining a blood pressure reading.

Moreover, every year there show be an Annual new Clinical Eligibility Assessment (CEA) which seems to be an in person appointment with Veteran & cargiver with the VA physician performing the updated CEA. If it's determined that you are better, then the recommendation of the clinical team will possibly be upheld by the Director of the performing VA Medical Center.

In response to your specific inquiry, in my opinion, the annual clinical evaluation shall determine if the Veteran still meets the eligibility criteria of the VA Family Caregiver Program. If meet then a continuation is granted; if not, then a 90-day transition out of the program shall occur. Take care and enjoy!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Good deal and congratulations early congratulations for meeting the specific criteria of the VA Family Caregiver Program.

In response to your direct inquiry, your collective medical record shall be reviewed for the qualifying serious injury and injuries. In my opinion, not being on a current therapy plan shouldn't have a major effect on the outcome of the Coordinator Support Office's clinical determination.

As such, Tier level assignment is based upon how many hours are needed of personal care services required for the Veteran (e.g., 10, 25 or 40 hours) as based upon the clinician review of the Veterans medical record and answers to questions. Take care and enjoy!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Well, congratulations to the forthcoming telephone from the VA Family Caregiver Program's Coordinator Support Office. It may seem that you both are indeed qualified for the Family Caregiver Program at this particular point in time.

From our experiences when in the VA Family Caregiver Program, the assigned medical physician shall perform the clinical eligibility assessment (CEA) which is composed of two parts/sections. The first part/section is the eligibility phase which has seven specific questions in which all of those questions must receive a "yes" response. The second part/section is the Supervision/Protection phase which determines the specific tier level (e.g., one, two, or three) as based upon the total number of hours needed to perform the Family Caregiver services.

Moreover, the in-person appointment with the VA Family Caregiver physician will validate the answer to the aforementioned question from parts one and two of the CEA. Otherwise, the physician shall perform the CEA at that point if it wasn't performed over the telephone previously. Take care and enjoy!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

UPDATED #1:

Great news...

As of 12 August 2016, it would seem that the online new SCAADL Calculator has indeed self-corrected at this particular point in time and is once again fully operationally.

To that extent, I am not aware of the time-frame as to the longevity of the proper operation of the online new SCAADL Calculator albeit please use it while it's definitely fully operationally at this particular point in time. Take care and enjoy! :)

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

From our experiences, no; the medical physician performing the CEA isn't the PCM/PCP. He/she should be staff personnel from the Family Caregiver Support Program. Take care!
