I have been active duty for just under 3 years in the Air Force. I was diagnosed with EoE and GERD back in December 2017. I have had 7 dilations done, been on all the different steroids and meds, been to the allergist and nothing is working. The doc said he's going to submit my package in a couple weeks to see if they want to do a full MEB. I also have Insomnia, had surgery on my right foot last year due to a bunion, and broke my ankle PTing so these have been giving me problems not able to run very well. I would love some help as far as what you guys think will happen. Do you think I will get an MEB? If so do you think it'll be a retirement? Medically separate me? If I do what are the disability ratings for the problems I have? I am married with a 1 year old son.

I’m going through an MEB for EOE as well. My MEB conditions are Ulcerative Colitis, Celiac, and EOE. I should be getting my rating from AFPC any day now. I’ll keep you posted with the outcome.

I think you should wait for the MEB. If the MEB is RTD with/without limitations then no sweat. If you are found unfit at less than 30%, get the best attorney you can afford.

Thank you for the reply. My package should be getting submitted to AFPC this week.

Yes I called the Rhode Island phone number today and they said they can only speak for the VA side of the house, and it's also not finalized yet but my proposed VA rating is 90%. I spoke with my Peblo and she said she can see the ratings herself but since they arent finalized she wouldnt give me the numbers. She said I should findout within a week though!

Just curious, is EoE a rateable condition? I was diagnosed on my last day in service but the gastro did not go into details so I know nothing about it. I have an appointment in 2 weeks. Just curious what code it is rated under.

EOE is rated under GERD. They mimic the same symptoms. Depending on how bad the esophagus is it can be rated as structure of the esophagus.

EOE is rated under GERD. They mimic the same symptoms. Depending on how bad the esophagus is it can be rated as structure of the esophagus.

This is how EOE/GERD is rated:

The esophagus is the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach.
Code 7203: A stricture of the esophagus occurs when the esophagus narrows and tightens, making it hard to swallow. If it is so narrowed that only liquids can be swallowed, it is rated 50%. If only being able to swallow liquids also causes a serious decrease in overall health, then it is rated 80%. If the esophagus is seriously narrowed, but some things besides liquids can also be swallowed, then it is rated 30%.
Code 7204: Spasms of the esophagus can occur when the muscles in the esophagus are unable to move food down to the stomach, often causing chest pain and various troubles eating. If this condition can be fixed with dilation treatment, then it is not ratable. If it cannot, then it is rated as a stricture of the esophagus, code 7203. The final code would look like this: 7204-7203. The first four-digit code defines it as spasms of the esophagus, and the second four-digit code tells how it is rated.
Code 7205: Diverticulum of the esophagus is a bubble or pocket of stretched tissue that pushes through the muscle wall of the esophagus. It normally occurs in people in their 50s, but can be a birth defect (these are not ratable). These pockets are caused by areas of weak muscle that cannot stand against the pressure of swallowing. They can also form through strong muscle if there is a swallowing disorder that causes extra pressure. This condition is only ratable if it causes problems with swallowing. It is then rated under code 7203. The final code would look like this: 7205-7203. The first four-digit code defines it as diverticulum of the esophagus, and the second four-digit code tells how it is rated.
