I would first like to thank anyone who can help me understand what is going on.

Back Story: I have been in the AF for 10 years now. In 2010 I was diagnosed with asthma, every year I have a RILO. In 2009 I was involved in a car accident that resulted in me having lower back pain.

My RILO closed out a month ago and I was returned back to duty. Today I get an e-mail stating that I am going up against an MEB board for asthma and back pain. I have not seen my PCM regarding back pain nor am I on a profile for back pain. My question is how is that I was cleared a month ago and I'm facing a Medical Board for asthma. Nothing in my asthma condition has changed. I thought that during a RILO was the time that they decided if a MEB was needed.

When the issues were active and I was going in for physical therapy, chiropractor and all these other specialist I was not facing an MEB, the word never came up. But now the asthma I was returned to duty for and the back pain that is not hindering anything and is not constant is now a factor when it never was before.

This seems strange. Maybe your chiropractor/physical therapist recommended it to your PCM after assessing your situation, or your PCM reviewed your records and decided to refer you to a MEB based upon your back issue. You say your asthma situation hasn't changed....did you start taking a new drug or increase dosage of the drug(s) you are currently taking? Did you take a PFT lately that might show change in your asthma? Have you failed any PT tests? What is your AFSC?

Thanks for your quick response. I haven't been to chiro or phys therapy in a while I want to say a year. My asthma situation has not changed no new drugs, no new dosage anything. My RILO returned me to duty on April 2 of this year for asthma. I haven't done any PFT's. My last one was done for my RILO and was submitted with it. I haven't failed any PT tests. My back issues aren't really an issue compared to before. Yes, I do have pain from time to time but I haven't gone back to see anyone on base because all they do is hand you a bunch of pills and send you on your way. I am a 2A.

Sounds like there may be an error somewhere...maybe the fact that the RILO decided return to duty wasn't fully "pushed" through the system (or even entered at all) and, therefore, is showing you as due for a MEB. Of course all that is speculation, I would talk to my PCM or the MEB section at your base asap if I were you and clear it up.

I have spoken to my MEB Liason. First I was told that I was never returned to duty that no action was taken and they decided not to fast track MEB. I didn't know I was being fast tracked for anything. So, I sent her what I had saying I was returned to duty. Her reply was they can pull my records at anytime and decide to do a MEB. I told her that it was not making any sense because they just reviewed my records and everything was fine. Nothing has changed and now I'm being MEB'd?

Your PEBLO doesnt sound to be to much help. I would pull your records yourself and look over them if that dosent help. Ask your peblo for a sit down and/or make an appt with the DAWG Chairman or call Flight Med they have their hands in all of that.

Good luck and keep your head up, remember the AF is dumping ppl left and right.

After doing some research I think I know what is going on. If I am correct, I can probably get this thrown out. So, if we have any praying people on here, please pray everything works in my favor. I know the AF is trying to get rid of people but I have not been in trouble...no article 15, LOR's, UIF, failed PT. It's just quite interesting to me how the very people who are suppose to be for you (Sq supervision) even though they really are not. Quick update: I posted a more detailed thread somewhere else but I was requested to come and have a meeting with my CC and Shirt regarding prior to my CC writing his recommendation letter. Before the meeting was over I asked what his thought process/recommendation would be for this letter. He replied that it would be a positive one. Well, I got a copy of it and it was anything but positive. It just puzzles me how the same individuals who preach integrity are sometimes the one that struggle with it. Why couldn't he just be honest, this was really my first "dealings" with my CC (aside from the walk arounds where they ask how you are doing ) and I can honestly say I lost a lot of respect (not saying I would be disrespectful). I just hold certain people to a higher standard. Once honesty and trust is lost it's really hard to go to the same people who are "suppose to take care of you" for help or even when you need someone to talk to. To everyone who supervises someone and even those who aren't in that position, your word is everything. If you say something follow through with it. If you change your mind gives them that respect and let them know. I have seen too many situations where no one knows what's going on with an individual until it's too late. As a result the person is getting paperwork, kicked out or worse and if they would of just spoken up they could of saved themselves the headache. Ninety percent of those individuals will tell you at some point and time they reached out and never got help, was promised help and nothing was ever done or they were told stop b******* and complaining when they had valid issues. Yes, we are in the business of getting airplanes in the air but planes can't fly without people. People are our most valuable assets and if there is no trust everything slowly spirals downward because everyone faces obstacles. I could go on and on but I am pretty sure you get the point.

Are you deployable? If you have not been deployable in 1 year you will end up going through the board process. That is what happened to me. I was boarded because I became undeployable for a year.

I currently have a C-2 code on me but at the same time my career field doesn't deploy at the base I'm at. We mostly go TDY stateside.

Update: A RILO was requested due to my orders. Even though I was suppose to get a RILO or was told a RILO was being done. Come to find out my PCM wanted to Re-MEB since my conditioned "worsened". She was forced to do a RILO due to PCS and send up the narrative, CC letter and current profile per DPAMM request. As you can tell from my post above my CC letter drove the nail in the coffin.Which not only surprised me but has proven to me integrity is not always first sometimes it varies. I spoke with my Liason and she agreed with me that, they are just trying ti kick me out. It hurts to know that I would have given 11 years of my life, stayed out of trouble, no 15's UIF, nothing in my PIF and no matter how many awards and even being coined by CC still made me so easy to toss to the side. My only issue is the asthma and back pain (since they want to include it) it has never affected my job but yet people who get DUI's can get a slap on the wrist and get their stripe back...but they can run. I was initially a code 31 because my PCM felt that it was temporary and could be better controlled within a year time frame. My CC solidified a 37 from DPAMM, so much for a positive letter.
