Hello everyone. I'd like to start my first post with a sincere 'thank you' for this site and the wealth of information and knowledge it contains and I wish I knew about it two years ago.
I didn't realize how pear shaped my board was until I heard about this site from other service members from Wounded Warriors or different WTB that have more structured and intimate understanding regarding the process. It wasn't until I was already set to go to D.C. started reading posts that really help me gather or procure the appropriate documents.
*****Novel alert*****
My med board was initiated in January of last year (2016) and the catalyst was from a back injury during a fire and maneuver range in 2014. PTSD was added as another condition (the wizard also suggested I speak with my TBI specialist but it felt weird asking, should have listened ). The package was submitted Mid-March and I found out my results while I was attending an inpatient program in California (Aug-Nov) in September. Here's a brief time line taken from the I.C.E. report I recently submitted.
-Mid September 2016: My first notification of results while inpatient in NMC Point Loma (OASIS). It started by me calling requesting a status of any new information the PEBLOs had the information 2 weeks prior to my knowledge.
- Late September2016: I was denied multiple times a copy of the PEB paperwork for a MEB/PEB attorney to review while I was in California since I was extended 4 additional weeks at the OASIS program. If I would get a reason it would be because it was "null and void".
So the original DOD disposition for my 2 medical board conditions was (minus the additional mental health programs):
Lower Back- 10% unfit condition
PTSD- not an unfitting condition
Award- Separation with severance
VA- 80%
Fast forward to the Formal board at the end of March 2017 where I spent 10 minutes in front of the panel when they changed the PTSD to unftting. They also matched the VA rating of 30% which they didn't "understand why it was so low" but there is like 4 different diagnoses all clumped in one and PTSD is on it twice, they also "awarded" me PDR.
I received the results 11 weeks later
- Mid June 2017: Results come back from Formal Board.
DOD- 60%
PTSD-50% CR/CZ
Lumbar Spondylosis-10% NCR (should be CRSW)/NCZ)
PDRL
VA-90%
When I asked questions about how the process is supposed to go, how do I find out why I'm rated the way I am and how do I fix errors if the numbers are not correct the only response she gave was a calculation of my estimated compensation.
- Late July 2017: Errors in retirement documents sent from Headquarters Marine Corps***
- Early September 2017: Submitted copy of PEB results to BAS Limited Duty POIC to close out "LimDu" packet and noticed the errors on the documents.
The HM1 called the PEBLO and she stated no changes can be made.
- Early September 2017: Errors in new retirement documents resent from Headquarters Marine Corps***
I'm not looking to change numbers, if you review the document it starts with box (3.) Incorrect rank, under ADDITIONAL FINDINGS (13.) the Medical Officer's statement proves what is posted to be incorrect. and finally the Presiding Officer from the Informal Board provides the statement to correct the mistake the Medical Officer made over the same diagnosis. With 21 days left
in the Marine Corps and seeing that the source of the issues with my retirement trash is stemming from the from the front page of my Formal Board Results. The last thing I want is find out on the 29th that there are issues because one of the sources the system draws from to populate my DD214 has an error because of the discrepancies that "can't be changed" on my PEB paperwork . If you made it this far thank you for your time. Sorry for the novel, if there was any place to vent I guess here would be the place.
