General Timeline Question

After a few years of bouncing around from one specialist to another I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia on 17 April 2017. This is in addition to obstructive sleep apnea, chronic migraines, chronic PTSD, Complete hearing loss of left ear (IED/multi-surgeries) and anxiety. I had a CT scan last week and am was scheduled immediately with Brain Rehabilitation after my PCM received the results. I have an appointment today at 0900.

I was informed by my Rheumatologist 25 June 17 that he is recommending me for a MEB, which to be honest I agree with his decision. So to my inquiry to all the PEB/MEB/IDES gurus is how long before you are notified that your were actually submitted?

I haven't received an e-mail or notification from my PCM or the Medical Group and nothing in TricareOnline eludes to the fact I was put in for one, but two weeks ago my PCM asked me the status of the MEB. I told him all I know is the Rheumatologist said he was putting me for.

Should I contact my PCM to check the status or is there a quicker more efficient way to check? I already call the Office of Airman's Counsel and can't find the number for the PEBLO.

I am 15 yr/AD Air Force MSgt (E-7) with 5 deployments.

I have seen the numerous timeline threads and I gleam the fact the process is long, but 6 weeks just to get submitted seems excessive. I think I saw on the timeline it should be 10 days from the referral from the MTF until the PEBLO notifies you. I may be wrong though.

Sorry for the lengthy post.

Usually, the first step for AF is to submit you to the DAWG. They will determine whether or not you merit a full MEB...which you do. That can take up to 2 weeks for the decision to come back. I would recommend asking your Rheumatologist if they submitted your information yet.

Thanks for the reply. I will look him up on the global and send him an e-mail.

I e-mailed my rheumatologist, who is Army, and he e-mailed me back this morning:

My note written on 07/25/2017 states, " Consider referral to MEB". You need to follow-up with your PCM and have them review my note and submit the referral. If I remember correctly your USAF and they have the PCM do the referral to MEB.

I sent my PCM an message on RelayHealth asking him if I was ever submitted and what the status was. Hopefully, I hear something back in the next few days. I am in a selectively manned unit and if I am going to be MEB'd they will need to start looking for my replacement ASAP.

Such a drawn out confusing process.

Hopefully you find out soon.

So my case was sent to the DAWG on 26 October 17. I called my case manager who told me to call the PEBLO on 26-27 November to discuss the next step. I asked what the outcome of the DAWG was and she doesn;t know....So why would she have me call the PEBLO if it was a RTD. Also I was originally told I was submitted to the DAWG for Fibromyalgia, but was told it was for Chronic PTSD. This whole process is crazy.

Sometime the Peblo will know the status of the DAWG's decision.

Here we are in May of 2018 and I was notified by a my PEBLO my case is going to an IRILO. Here is what she wrote me:

Just a little update - your case was presented to
our board yesterday - this phase is known as the IRILO stage. The purpose
of this board to ensure all medical conditions have been looked at, covered
and annotated appropriately. Your case was upload electronically to HQ
AFPC Medical Standards - they will review and determine if you can be
returned to duty or a full board is directed.

Expected time frame for this period approximately 4 weeks days.

I will notify you of the results and the next steps when I receive the
recommendation from Medical Standards.

Thank you for your patience.

I was submitted for Fibromyalgia, AAC37 active for the last month, and AF 469 PT exempt for 365 days (All Compenents)

Lets hope the process speeds up a little bit. My DOS is fast approaching

Don't worry about the DOS, you will be given the option of a Med hold to finish the IDES process if in fact AFPC determines full MEB.

I am in the same boat, but a TSgt with 4 deployments minus the hearing loss you have. I was told in Dec 17 that my Rheumatologist was starting a MEB. 3 months later he tells me he is not writing it, only recommending it and my PCM has to start the MEB. My PCM deployed and I've been bounced around for months. I straight up told the nurse practitioner to start my MEB by doing the 365 no PT/mobility code 37 not code 31. I finally got a PEBLO. I wrote the commanders statement, met with the cc, he sent it to the PEBLO. I don't have a NARSUM yet, my PCM is clueless. I'm on qtrs today and tomorrow just sitting in pain trying to keep my body moving.

Have you had them say if you are unfit? Have you had any exams for this?

Update:
I am still waiting on my results from medical standards, whatever that is, and my PEBLO said I should be out before Christmas. Which would be nice, but I'm know holding my breath on that.

I received my CT scans a few months ago and have been going to neuropsychology for multiple TBI's. These have effected my memory, cognitive ability, and hand-eye coordination. Luckily when all my paperwork was resubmitted I was only put in for Fibromyalgia in order to stream line the MEB process. We'll see how that goes.

This whole process is annoying. I am an operations superintendent at the HQ level and I am constantly at appointments or group. I have three mandatory appointments a week, an insomnia group, and PTSD group. I am gone from work all the time with all those appointments, plus the random Fibro flare ups, migraines, or i'm so exhausted I can't function.

I wish this process would come to a conclusion.

My commander wrote his statement with me in the room. He is an old Wing Commander so he is very familiar with the process. He asked me if I wanted to stay in or get out. I told I wanted to get out so he wrote unfit on the commanders statement and recommends an expedited MEB.

My rheumatologist already wrote the NARSUM and he also said I was unfit.

Thanks for sharing. I’m at the same junction of my career, and patiently awaiting to see where it takes me.

I'm hoping that now the holiday is over the VA starts calling me with appointments. I had 17 claimed problems. I hoping I don't have to see 17 doctors.

Your MSC will schedule your VA C&P exams. At least that how it worked in my case... out of 25 claims, I had 6 appts at the VA spread over a 3 day period...

I had 38 claimed conditions and 4 appointments over a 3 week period. One specific for Behavioral Health, one for Vision, one for Hearing, and one for everything Physical. You shouldn’t have 17 appointments.

Same here. I had one hearing exam, one vision exam, and one physical (head-to-toe) exam spanning 3 days with three different providers.

I got the highly anticipated phone call from QTC last night. I have three appointments set-up for 2 days: General Health, Audiology and Mental Health/TBI.

These appointments are mid-June. I'm hoping it goes smooth so I can be out by the end of the year, but I think that is overly optimistic.

I think you’ll be okay. I started the MEB process on 22 March, and signed my 199 2 days ago. So a little over 60 days and I was done with MEB and PEB. 90% VA, 70% DoD, TDRL. Even had legal review it to make sure. I’m waiting on orders and I’m done. What holds you up is appeals. But I’ve seen in forums on FB it’s not adding that much time right now.
