cool thanks for the reply and your 5 and 6 sep went really fast haha
No problem. Yeah, initially that speedy turnaround alarmed me, but I've been told that they go over all of the paperwork that they have had for months on end prior to getting the final package and have most of the review done. My claim documents were there since June (3 months prior) before I signed my 618 and they got the final package.

That doesn't seem to be the case for me unfortunately. My package was sent on 11 Sep, and I'm biting my nails waiting for the results. I emailed my MSC, and he gave me some generic answer on timeline. They've had my package since 23 May. This waiting is driving me nuts!!

I can totally understand that. With the length of time you've been waiting it is reasonable that you feel the way you do. I hope you find out and get favorable results once it all comes to a close!

honestly no lol I was expecting to be medically separated and not on the permenant retirement list. The VA was a little low TBH but the fact that I now get a retirement and VA check makes up for the fact

no only 7 but 50 percent or more from DoD allows you to get a retirement check as well. ive read it along with my peblo and finance telling me the same thing
My Military Service Coordinator has told me that this is a common misconception. Before you expect 2 payouts please, please, please double check with your advisors, because according to DFAS here are the only ways to qualify for both:

If you were placed on a disability retirement, but would be eligible for military retired pay in the absence of the disability, you may be entitled to receive CRDP.
****(With 7 yrs, you would not meet this category)****

Under these rules, you may be entitled to CRDP if…

  • you are a regular retiree with a VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater. ***(You are not a regular retiree--your are a disability retiree--therefore, this does not apply in your case)***
  • you are a reserve retiree with 20 qualifying years of service, who has a VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater and who has reached retirement age. (In most cases the retirement age for reservists is 60, but certain reserve retirees may be eligible before they turn 60. If you are a member of the Ready Reserve, your retirement age can be reduced below age 60 by three months for each 90 days of active service you have performed during a fiscal year.)
  • you are retired under Temporary Early Retirement Act (TERA) and have a VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater. ***(you do not have enough time in to be a TERA retiree--therefore, this does not apply in your case)***
  • you are a disability retiree who earned entitlement to retired pay under any provision of law other than solely by disability, and you have a VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater. You might become eligible for CRDP at the time you would have become eligible for retired pay. ***(I don't know your situation so I can't say if this applies or not)***
I only bring this up because I want you to be sure about this. As a personnelist with over a decade dealing with Finance, I can say for sure that they are surely not always accurate when advising on matters like this. Bring this back up with your PEBLO and Finance, and please include a printout of this information straight from DFAS to see if they can explain their interpretation based off of DFAS's guidance: https://www.dfas.mil/retiredmilitary/disability/crdp.html

My MSC has told me horror stories of service members and their spouses in tears because they bought a new house and a new car thinking they'd get both checks to pay for it--only to find out at the last minute that they were only getting the one.

I hope I am wrong about this, but it's best to be sure.

found my results today 50% Dod 70% VA
Congrats! That's great news!

As for the 2 checks, I agree with GSWarrior2017, check first. I was under the impression that your retirement check is offset by your VA check. Check out this DFAS calculator to see how much you'll be getting: https://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/woundedwarrior/disabledretireest.html. Notice that if you adjust the VA rating up it reduces your retirement check and puts more in your VA amount, but the overall total does not change.

Yea, you'll only get the VA $$$ but you'll get full benefits like Tricare for life (like $500/year) and base access

ive done that calculator before and i talked with finance today...... i understand yalls concerns but i was told by everyone in finance with 50% DoD rating i will get retirement... grant it wont be much with only 7 years in but i will get something it will be the greater of 2 options

1. percentage

retired base pay times the 50% DoD disability

or

2. credible years

2.5% times 7 years times retired base pay

i did the calculator just now and it had a 0 in DoD retirement, but finance did something saying i will be getting something for retirement

Geez, that's the frustrating thing in this whole process...too many questions, not enough answers or people to answer them. Well, regardless, I hope you get what you want!!

not yet said it takes roughly 10 business days unless AFPC wants to do some work
Took me 19 calendar days to get mine. Even turned down applying for med hold to gain more terminal time. Everything worked out, and you can see your stuff flip in DVB / VMPF the day of or day before you get orders!

Hello, I don't go to Luke Afb but I came across this forum and was wondering maybe yall can help me out. So I am stationed at Shaw AFB and I am getting Medically retired. I got 60% from DOD and 100% from VA. I got my orders and my last day is 27 Nov. I was talking to my peblo counseler and she stated that I get 20 PTDY already added in when I go to finance on top of my terminal. Then she said that I can get an additional 20 days PTDY if my commander approves it ? Is this true? I am trying to get clarification because my leadership doesn't think this is true. Thanks!
