Hi question for you all. I am just beginning the MEB process an I’m waiting on my NARSUM to be completed. I’m getting MEBd due to mental health reasons. My question is do mental health MEBs go faster than a regular MEB?

Not really. The VA will do the examine and you go into the same stack as everyone else. What will be different, if you make no other contentions, is you will have only one exam - which will be faster. But in reality most folks have more than one contention with the VA.

I too was MEB'd for MH reasons and I submitted a request for an impartial review as well as a separate appeal. From start to finish it took me nearly a year to complete. See my timeline for specifics. Like @chaplaincharli said, MH reasons don't necessarily give cause for a faster process.

So NARSUM is completed an code 37 has been put on me so now what? My therapist is saying it could go ask quick at 2 months because of the medication I’m on. He said it’s very cut an dry an there is no way I can stay in with a bipolar diagnosis.

If it's any consolation. I started my MEB in August 2017. I was medically retired on March 1, 2018.
So yours seemed to go a little quicker than most. I know I will be getting out it’s just a question if it will be a retirement or a medical separation.

Mine took about 2 or 3 weeks. You may get a call from a nurse down at AFPC too and she will ask more questions. The day after I talked to her, I was notified of a full MEB.

What did the phone call entail? I’m waiting to hear from them now. My PEBLO said my stuff has moved from medical standards at AFPC to the wounded warrior team an i should be expecting a call from them today or tomorrow. This whole process is nerve wracking.

My mental health meb took about 5 months from when my provider sent in the letter about my mental health condition to when the peblo got the determination back.

I just went through for a referred condition for mental health. It took about 8 months from start to finish for me, with no appeals.

So I’m curious I just got a unfit for duty from IRILO I meet with my PEBLO Thursday an the VA next Wednesday. How quickly does the process go from here?

Try not to post the same question in a bunch of places.

The DAWG determining you unfit is going to be different than the MEB determining you unfit. You're in the initial stage, but since your VA appointment is already next week you're doing well! You're looking at absolute best case, everything goes super fast, you turn all documentation in early and don't appeal any decisions two- three months from now best case. That's if the VA, your base and the MEB are ahead of their timelines...so I wouldn't count on that.

More than likely you could be looking at closer to six, up to a year if you need to appeal something or see the VA again.

For example, my IRILO came back unfit in December...I had my VA appointments first week of Feb where I was diagnosed with PTSD w/MDD...a brand new diagnosis unrelated to the shoulder injury and migraines I was MEB'd for. I have my last VA appointment TOMORROW. So you can see there is a massive difference between what timelines can look like :(
