TIMELINE: MEB THROUGH PEB

The question on most of our minds is this:

How long is it all going to take?

This is an attempt to answer that question, but it's going to take all of us to do it. The idea is to give a very detailed account of the timeline of each person's case. It's one thing to say "in February I was tumpy tumpy" but there's a world of difference and two pay periods between the beginning of the month and end of it.

Somwhere there's the theory if the sample population (ours here) is large enough, it comes to represent the whole (all military members going through this). If there are enough people who take notes and are good at remembering dates, or do like I do and keep a monthly planner you can keep notes in, then it would go a long way to easing others' minds about how long they should really expect things to take.

I want to thank you all for participating!

OK my IPEB results are in, meet on Monday to review and sign if they are satisfactory.

MEB 10 Feb 10
IPEB packet received in Walter Reed 12 Feb 10
Packet sent back to MTF 4 March 10

Thats pretty quick from what I've seen on here, I hope the results are ok

Hey all im new to this forum and had a series of time line related PEB questions

Sit: I am being put on a PEB for ptsd, insomnia (all that greatness)..My medboard has already gone thru i see it on MOL(Marine Online) DEC 28 2010, Now my PEBLO told me my board is currently getting reviewed n signed by the convening authority, then he will call me to sign some papers and send it out to get authorized in DC(?)

I have checked out in terms of my checkout sheet, done TAPs/DTAP, worked with the VA rep - currently waiting on them to accept my claims. So......

1) Who is this convening authority and how long does it take for him to review and sign the board
2) How long after the board is sent out to DC does it take to come back
3) After it comes back i understand i can take "Home awaiting orders" until my stuff is finalized - How long does that take? I need the DD214 for college, my VA claims, and unemployment

I am a 3year PFC (reduced due to an assault charge as a result of my diagnoses
Please let me know either thru this websight or via email, [email protected]

thanks, semper fi

This is the nitty gritty of my medboard ordeal:

Dec 2009: Medical treatment first sought for condition
June 2010: P3 profile FINALLY issued/first visit to PEBLO
Sept 2010: Phase 1/Phase 2 physicals completed
Dec 2010: NARSUM completed (3 MONTH WAIT!!!)
Jan 2011: MEB packet signed and sent to PEB (A FULL MONTH WAIT!!!)
Mar 2011: 5 weeks and still waiting on IPEB results...

it's simply ridiculous that there are people out there that first saw their PEBLO 4 months after i did and they are already out of the service. what's more ridiculous is i'm considered one of the lucky one's around here. we have quite a few people going on 3 year MEBs in my unit, and one even 4 years STILL medboarding

Here is mine thus far, maybe someone could give me a little hope as i am losing it fast.

2010.11.08 Phys Notification of MEB
2010.11.18 Initial PEBLO Counsel
2010.11.22 Cmdr notified
2010.11.23 Phys exam complete
2010.12.15 MEB Appt
2011.01.03 Physician/Narrative Summary
2011.01.28 Sigs returned to PEBLO/Pt Counsel w/ PEBLO
2011.02.01 PEB receives Packet (Ft. Lewis, WA)

I was told roughly on the 21st of FEB that they are approx a month behind. Is this something they tell MEB'ers so they just don't ask for a while? REALLY missing my family.

Yah, i think your case is moving right along. My MEB notification was in August and i'm at Ft. Lewis. From speaking to my PEBLO she said they always give you the extended time line because its not fair to give a "realistic" timeline as its a case to case basis. So when you get your results back before their time line says it should be back, they look good.

My wife is in the process of PCSing to Japan. And i'm stuck here waiting for the MEB to be completed. I can relate to your situation. Hang in there. Its almost over.

Here is mine thus far, maybe someone could give me a little hope as i am losing it fast.

Hey Bombergirl,

My packet went to the board on 15Feb.....5 weeks today and it has been rough. My wife and I are dual military. I'm out of Ft Riley and she is out of FLW, MO. We are both going thru MEB's. As much as I have hated being away form my family, I am so much happier going thru the MEB process at Riley vs Ft Leonard Wood.

Keep your head up and be sure to let us know when you hear something.....if nothing else, I know I should be 1-2 weeks behind you!

BTW... Are you DES or Legacy? Im a part of the DES Pilot program, wife is going thru the process under Legacy...

Does anyone know the turn around on orders after you get the VA results?

and now we wait.

My PEBLO said I could be done by June or July at the latest. I am really hoping it is sooner. I was supossed to be done according to the timeline for the IDES by April. June makes it harder for me to get a job with the school districts here.

They are telling me that it will be 4 or 5 months before I see ratings. That's crap if it takes that long. Guess we'll see.

That's nice to see that they started telling the truth! I was told "Approximately 30-45 days" and that was on October 4th, 2011, and I still don't have ratings!

This is like the grand finale of hurry-up-and-wait! Maybe that's where HOAH comes from, only it's actually spelled HUAW!

But they have tried to lie to me through the whole process, I just made sure I was better educated than them. My favourite was when the PEBLOs assistant put in the system that my NARSUM had been sent for signatures...they did not send it for another week.

The thing people don't realise is; they have deadlines that they must adhere to as well, of course they don't, but when you bring things to their attention like memos and mandates, things start to sail.

The PEBLO told me 4-5 months for ratings, the following Friday the assistant called and tried to tell me 30-90 days. Wonder where the problem is here.

In attempt to help someone like me... I would like to start off by saying after reading on this forum for a while its funny in a sickening way how stressful this is for all of us. There is nothing like knowing the military will not be in our future and not being able to continue on with life. Just waiting around (somewhere you don’t want to be) and coming into work (for a job I did not sign up for). The continuous state of unknown and all that’s unknown becoming less and less clear the more and more people you/I ask. I may be done with this navy but they aren’t done teaching me things like patience, fortitude, and perseverance. Find a way to dig down and get through it we will all be stronger for it. But I digress.

Im in ides system and all dates are rough give or take 5-10 work days.

Aug 2008- vehicle accident, broke wrists (scaphoid)
Sep 2008- Surgery 1

Jan 2009- cleared for full duty
Mar 2009- Iraq deployment (x-rays in Iraq ,July2009, showing nonunion and fragmenting. This had no affect on my operation status and finished my deployment)

Apr 2010- Surgery 2 (resulted in failure, due to necrosis of scaphoid)

Mar 2011- Surgery 3 (proximal row carpectomy, bottom row of bones from wrist removed)
May2011-Oct2011- Physical therapy reaching maximum benefit (resulting in little to no range of motion, chronic pain which increases with use. Some days to hold a pencil can be quite the challenge)
(On and off limdu from 2008 to present)
20 Nov 2011- Doc referred me to ipeb (bypassing the meb process in a way) due to the fact of my ongoing status and possibility of endangering myself and others working as a Special Forces Operator.

9-23 Jan 2012- met with peblo and complete all my VA claims.
23 Jan - 17 Feb 2012- package bouncing around region for signatures
27 Feb 2012 - package mailed to ipeb in DC(or wherever it goes)
16 Mar 2012- Sent to VA for rating

I’ve been "Pending decision approval" since at least 27Apr - 03 May 2012 (I was on leave the month of Apr so I’ve probably been in the “pending” status for more than what is stated above).

God give me patience and lets get this thing going and over with already. It has been long enough.
I’ll keep ya’ll updated as the snail trail continues. Good luck to everyone in this flawed process.

p.s. Try not to kill anyone/everyone along the way. lol

Another bump here. Ratings came in 60% Army, 80% VA, PDRL. I concurred and signed. Now they say 1 week to 2 months for orders. So close.

btcanon where did your ratings go in the VA system? I completed my VA exams in early October and am still waiting on the ratings from the Seattle VA.

Seattle as well, I am just obnoxious with these people though. If we have to maintain timelines, then they should have to as well. I have bothered everyone in this process to death. I am always on the phone asking questions. My advice would be to physically go in and see your MSC and see if they can give you any info as to where you are in the rating process.
