Good morning, afternoon or evening,
My name is Drew, I am a Senior Chief in the Navy and I just went over 20 years last month. In my past I had a break in service and was a reservist for 3 years and ofr that I actually get paid at 23 years. I am wondering how that will come into play when I do retire.
Med History Back in 2007 I was diagnosed with FABRY, a rare genetic disease. The diseas has many complications with stroke, heart problems and Kidney problems as te 3 main concerns. As of now My Brain and heart is good but I do have small issues with the Kidney but fortunately my renal function is normal(hooyah). People with my condition also experience problems with sweating so we have to be very careful with the heat, we have gastrointestinal problems, neuropathy of the extremities and so there are some days I am in extreme pain with difficulty walking, we experience nausea at a whim, respiratory problems and for a few hearing loss. For me personally I have had alot of the symptoms but I have been on a biweekly enzyme replacement therapy for 8 years. The treatment has done wonders to keep almost all my symptoms in check. In 2011 I lost complete hearing in my left ear
Back in 2009-2012 I went on LIMDU twice to be able to find a sea going command that would accept me and fortunately I did. I dodged a bullet for 6 years. More recently back in June 2014 I lost hearing in my right ear for 2 days. I got some hearing back. My chain of command was ok with everything and allowing me to stay to finish my sea tour, so I thought. Last month things took a major round turn and So now I am being forced to face that PEB after all. I am more at ease with it now that I have my 20 years in.
I am still searching the site for all my questions I have mostly about DOD pay & VA Pay and examples for people who have similar conditions to me. I have seen where some peole have been rated 0% for hearing loss and that worries me that I wont get any percentage for mine loss.(I do wear hearing aides now ). That I am wondering since my disease has many symptoms will the board view each symptom as a separate condition or tie them in with the main condition being FABRY. To my Knowledge I am one of the First to face a PEB with my disease. There are 2 others in the Navy that I know of with FABRY as well. Oddly we are all in Virginia.
