Looking ahead to impact of a Federal Government Shutdown

It's looking more certain that a shutdown will happen. I wanted to share what I know. I just read this from a Military Times article: "Navy leaders said that all physical evaluation board processes for sailors and Marines will be paused until the shutdown is resolved." I suspect that this will be the case DoD-wide. I have recently noticed a much higher number of civilians sitting on Army boards (two boards over the past month that I have gone to have had two out of three board members who were civilians, including the Presiding Officer). I spoke with a PEBLO yesterday who mentioned that he would be required to work without pay during the shutdown. I don't know if that is going to be the case for all PEBLOs, but it's a possibility. I hope everyone has taken a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of our Brothers and Sisters who have given the ultimate sacrifice in military service to our Great Nation. I also hope that you all have enjoyed the day. To me, the day is best served by taking time to honor the fallen and also to enjoy what their service has given us- the Freedom that we enjoy and the fruits of a country that allows us so much. Godspeed fallen warriors. Your service is never forgotten! I will be posting more in the near future about initiatives to help Wounded Warriors and to fix the problems they so often face. Apologies, folks! You may have noticed that on attempting to log in today, there was an "Account Suspended" notice. To clarify, that was my hosting account. I had missed the hosting invoice and they suspended the account which was cleared up when I saw the suspension notice and then paid the hosting bill. We are all now Un-Suspended!

Happy Veterans Day 2021

I hope everyone had a Happy Veterans Day 2021 and took time to enjoy the day and reflect on both their own service, the service of those still in uniform, and the common sacrifices that are shared among us in this very special group. My young daughters asked me this morning about the day (they had the day off), so it was good explaining to them what the day is about and the meaning of service. Even more special, I was able to speak with my son who is in Kuwait and is getting ready to return CONUS after his tour in Afghanistan. Thank you my fellow Veterans for your service and a special thanks to those still serving. Its an honor to count you all as my brothers and sisters.

Memorial Day 2021

I hope everyone has a Happy Memorial Day that includes honoring and reflecting on those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our Nation. I have struggled at times with how we, as a Nation, observe this day. This is more so as to how those who have little connection to military service observe this day. But, the thing that has troubled me is the phrase "Happy Memorial Day." The day is meant to honor the service of the military members who have fallen in defense of our great Nation. Advertisments are gone- for now!

Advertisement with Google have been a way that I have used to help defray the costs of running this forum. They were "fine" for that purpose and have definitely helped. Still, they always annoyed me (I have the ability to turn them off for certain groups or members, but, I kept them on for me so that I could see what members see). Well, they annoyed me to the point that I have- at least temporarily- killed ads on the PEB FORUM. I have some ideas about the way forward for the site and I think that there is a lot more that I can do to make the site better. My original hope (once upon a time) was that if every member who just dropped in and was willing to donate about $1 monthly, I would have enough money to make this community so much better (I just looked at Analytics and I am showing about 3K users logging in every month on average). With that kind of support, I think I could do incredible things with the site, content wise, site wise, and also thinking better, do great things...
