BackRound info first. Was command referred to EBH after some shit went down on my second deployment in 2013. Saw EBH for 7 months until I PCS’d. Went 3 years without seeing them. Started going back in January of 2016 for PTSD related problems. I have been on a profile for over a year and been seeing a provider weekly and catoegorized as a “high risk”
So I have begun my med board process for a lower back injury I received on deployment. I have been on profile for my back and for EBH (ptsd) for just over a year now. As I understand, I will be able to claim PTSD and my other issues with the VA but they will not count towards the Army’s rating. I am trying to get over a 30% though with the army and I know my lower back claim by itself won’t cut it.
My back is the only permanent profile I currently have. I asked my EBH provider about making my temporary profile for PTSD into a permanent profile but she says since I have already been cleared by the army in the past for Recruiting Duty and for RI Duty that the Army will not agree to put me on a permanent profile for EBH.
My question is this: even though my back is my only permanent profile and is the sole cause of my Med board being initiated. Is there anyway that the QTC provider that did my evaluation for PTSD and TBI come back and say that my PTSD should also count towards the Army side of the disability percentage? Or does it HAVE to be a permanent profile in order for the Army to accept it? Thanks in advance for any help, this page has been amazing with informing me of this whole process and what to expect.

Mental health may or may not be found unfitting. Based on the the VA's verbiage regarding the rating of mental health conditions; I think a board should find a PTSD case of 50% or more as unfitting. There are plenty of folks that have received DoD ratings for mental health conditions.

Thank you for your response! That’s exactly what I was trying to understand. I was hoping that would be the case, but wasn’t sure if they would even consider it since I’ve only been on a temporary profile for it.

A temporary profile does not equate to a temporary condition. It equates to a condition not yet made permanent via the MEB process.

Agreed. I just didn’t think that the Army would look at it that way. I assumed they wouldn’t compensate it.

I thought it meant temporary condition at first, I wish that was the case. Just means they can raise or lower your percentages you get better or worse. Some conditions if cured can stay in service, PTSD is one where you have a better chance of staying in.

Chaplain Charlie, you were absolutely correct. I got my results back from the MEB. Even though I was referred for my back, they also added my PTSD as an unfitting condition. Legal says that my PTSD should be rated at 50 and my TBI at 40. So my question for you is this. Even though my refered condition was for a non combat related back injury, now that my combat related PTSD and TBI have also been found to be unfitting, will this entitle me to tax free benefits and make me eligible to apply for CRSC? Along with any other benefits I may be forgetting. Thanks in advance. I just figured I would ask you instead of starting s new thread, because I’m all the other threads I’ve read on this page, you always seem to have to most educated responses.

CRSC has some very specific rules. If your TBI/PTSD were the direct result of combat; then yes. There are some other ways the answer could also be yes.

Ok awesome thanks. I don’t know the exact rules but I’m sure having the Purple Heart and Valor award should help show its combat related. So since neither of those were my initial referral for the MEB will my VA compensation still be tax free since those two additional combat related failing conditions have been added?
