Mine said the 7th of May six days ago. I received my package on Friday. Then tonight they sent an email with documents of my PDBR results. I sure hope you get your results this week.

Thank you, just a little confused since some people got the actual results by email. This whole process has been the unknown lol thanks for the reply

how long was the time from when your case was sent to the Army for their decision to when you got this notice? I was told by the board that my info was sent to the Army on 2 May. I havent heard anything from anyone since.
I did ask the board why this process is so secretive and why we arent informed of ANYTHING during the process.
no response as yet. not that I'm really expecting one but hey, gotta try.

ok... got my letter today. I'm more confused now than ever. they're recharacterizing my separation as a discharge but at a 30% rate so I think my VA pay is going to be higher. I'm not qualified for concurrent receipt.

Congrats Kagey! Last time I checked 30% means that you can get medically retired instead of separated. This also means that you can get a retired military ID card and all the benefits that would entail. Including the retiree medical plan which is a hella lot cheaper than the civilian medical plan. As for the pay, I think that all depends on the rank you were separated at since that is what they would use. It is not the same calculation as with the VA. At least from everything that I have been reading. If anyone knows differently please correct me. But regardless great news for you!! I am still waiting, but I expected that since I only submitted my package in Aug of 2016. So i am sure I have at least 6-12 months to go lol.

yes, the letter does state medical retirement.

at this point my timeline was ~18months from application submission to reciept of letter. my VA award was about 3 months after my discharge so that might have helped.

I'm a little concerned that now instead of getting anything money wise I'm going to get a bill for the severance pay I got.

I did pay all that back through the VA but have no proof of it other than the award letter stating it was being recouped from my initial payments for about the first 2 or 3 years. I'm worried that the VA and DFAS don't talk to each other.

Unfortunately I have heard that this has actually happened. You are definitely correct in the assumption that the VA and DFAS do not communicate very well. A friend of mine had to fight almost 6 months and still didn't win. DFAS ended up taking the separation pay of about $24,000. Needless to say he wasn't happy. I have to say though that this is not always the case however from what I was reading. I am in the same boat too. I also got a severance pay when I was medically discharged and am completely expecting for DFAS to mess it up and try to make me pay that money back a second time.

I definitely suggest you hit up Jason Perry, the site founder and see what he knows about the situation. He is extremely knowledgeable and either can answer your questions or knows where you can go to find answers.

thank you. I will try to contact Jason.
I was an E5 with 4.5 yrs active duty service so I know I'm not qualified for concurrent receipt.

Unfortunately I did not get the same great news, however I’m just glad this is all over. Congratulations on your retirement, I was discharged with 0% but the board increased it to 10% so wondering if I will be receiving some kind of funds.

I'm so sorry that the outcome wasn't in your favor. I really feel bad for you.
I don't thing there is much you get out of being charged to 10%..

congratulations Kagey

Sorry the outcome was not as kind, Nicole

my outcome doesn't really change much for me as my husband was active duty for 20+ years and retired last year. all this does for me is gives me s blue ID card instead of brown dependent one. and probably a bill for the severance pay I've already paid back.

Holy shit, I am in the same boat. Actually regretted submitting my paperwork for the same reason. Wife is still AD with 23 years in. I feel like I will end up getting bumped up just enough by the PDBR to pay back severance

I'm already gathering my VA award letters where it says they held back pay for the recoupment of severance to when they said I was done paying it. next I'm going to get records from the bank (I hope they go back that far!) to show how much was deposited up to when to show the corresponding amounts. I'm hoping that's enough and that I can ward off anything major but yeah, if I had known. i think i would have just left things alone. now I'm more anxious than i was before i didn't know what the board was doing!

My Husband is also retired and I submitted for the PDBR. Have a lot of people been getting screwed over with the severance pay situation?

I havent got my packet yet but did hear from the board that they did change my rating from 10% but not to the point of permanent retirement, so I am guessing to 20%. I was wondering will the VA also change my rating to 20% as it is 10% now? If so I would be at 30% which means I would start getting paid for my dependents. Does anyone know if that how it works on the VA side and if so does that change become effective on the date of separation or from the PDBR date?

From what I'm aware, VA is totally separate from DOD. So, I don't believe there will be a change. I'm sorry you're result wasn't higher.
