Need Advice on starting the Process

Hello, I apologize if this isn't the correct thread for the help I need. My current situation is I am at 19 years and 5 months. They are talking about having me go through the MEB process. I have been told to ensure I hit my 20 year mark. My question is, I know I can drag it out a little bit, but during what process will I need for my 20 Year? would it before they make the decision, before I receive the ratings or when I am on terminal leave?

When you get your findings you will probably be at 20 YOS. The process takes some time. But if you are not you have the VA rerate a contention (VARR). Then you appeal to the Formal PEB, then you appeal to your service secretary. I can not imagine you will not make it to 20 with 19 years and 5 months.

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Indeed, it's definitely in your best interest to obtain 20 years of active federal service (AFS) for a military retirement whether being designated as a "medical/disability" or a "regular/length of service (LOS)" at this particular point in time.

To any extent, all of the scenarios you mentioned above will occur while in the DoD IDES process or upon completion of the DoD IDES. As such, all of that aforementioned military service (time) will be accumulated while still being on military active duty; therefore, it shall collectively count towards obtaining 20 years AFS. Take care!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Best Wishes!

I want to thank you both for your help.
