Your application was closed today. I suspect DFAS will receive the approval within the next seven days.

If they are able to process it before the ~20th, you would receive CRSC for 1-30 November on the 30th since 1 December is on Saturday. Otherwise, it would roll to the next processing month.

Retro CRSC is a moving target. Two to four months would be my estimate.

I was wondering if someone could explain something for me? I just talked to DFAS and they said my crsc audit had been sent to the va, does that mean I should receive my retro soon from DFAS?

Normally, the VA receives an audit from the DFAS when there has been an increase in the VA award by the VA and they have notified the DFAS that an audit is necessary.

CRSC audits are not usually sent to the VA since the DFAS pays CRSC.

Completion of audit: If you are due retroactive payment of CRSC and the audit has been completed, payment should be soon.

Ron

I can think of no reason for the DFAS sends a CRSC audit to the VA, unless it is routine (which I have not heard of during my 12 years involvement with CRSC issues).

I would call DFAS again for clarification.

Ron

They (DFAS) told me they have to send my audit to VA. They said VA owes me money for retro as well. Rep told me DFAS does all the auditing for VA. Sometimes they find out that VA owes money to people through auditing procedures.

I do not doubt you were told that.

The VA alerts the DFAS upon a VA award, VA increase, or VA decrease to a retiree. Subsequently, the DFAS performs an audit that could result in the previous amounts of VA compensation “withheld” paid as retro VA compensation. Occasionally, that audit might reveal an amount due the retiree from DFAS; an example being when a retiree eligible for CRDP receives a VA rating >= 50%.

A audit purely based on a CRSC award (which never occurs before a VA Award or change since the CRSC decision is primarily based on the VA award) that results in the VA owing additional VA compensation would be indicative of a previous automated audit being in error.

The DFAS returns audit results to the VA only once a month and that is around the 5th of a month.

Audits, General.

An audit purely based on a CRSC award (which never occurs before a VA Award or change since the CRSC decision is primarily based on the VA award) that results in the VA owing additional VA compensation would be indicative of a previous automated audit being in error.
EXAMPLE:
  1. Retiree receives VA award @ 80% 1 April 2018
  2. VA electronically alerts DFAS of new award April 2018
  3. DFAS performs audit for April 2018 VA award
  4. DFAS electronically sends audit results to VA on the 5th of a certain month and also makes applicable adjustments to military retired pay (e.g., retro pay, offset, etc. some of which might be made at time of receipt of award info...item 2)
  5. Upon receipt of DFAS audit, VA pays amounts previously shown in award letter as "withheld"
NEXT/LATER:

--CRSC is approved by service, example September 2018
--Service provides CRSC approval document to DFAS
--DFAS starts payment of CRSC
--DFAS performs CRSC audit
--Upon completion of audit, any retroactive CRSC determined is paid
--IF this CRSC audit showed any amounts due to be paid by VA, that would be due to the audit at item 3 being in error since in this example, no additional VA awards or changes are present.
--The payment of CRSC does not impact the payment of VA compensation.
--The DFAS returns audit results to the VA only once a month and that is around the 5th of a month.

CRSC timeline similarity.... and what is your current status?

CRSC starts- May 2018
Approved-Jan 7th 2019
1st CRSC Pay Check- Feb 1st 2019
Retro/backpay???

CRSC Appeal Timeline
CRSC Appeal approved 05FEBR2019
I called DFAS today(12MAR2019), I was told that I should receive the increase in my CRSC payment on April 1. The processing for my retro pay has not yet begun and will take 90-120 days. She did tell me that DFAS only got my CRSC letter about a week ago.
Also, I used the DFAS online disability calculator... The amount the calculator shows is about $50 more than what the DFAS rep told me I would be getting.

Among other defects, that calculator has not had the rates updated since "Updated Dec. 5, 2014."

It is good to learn DFAS is providing estimates on eventual CRSC payments. That seems to new. Thanks.

Hello RonG, I've seen you've done this a thousand times and I apologize for asking you to do it again but was wondering if you could figure out my estimated CRSC. I've done it myself a couple hundred times and keep going into the negatives which means I'm either a mathematical moron (likely) or I'm actually just going to get nothing (also likely). Anyway here's the stats--
High 3: 1800
Years AD: 6 years 8 months
VA Comp At 70%: ($1403.71)
DoD percent medical retirement >20: 70%
CRSC Approved at: 70%

Thanks a lot in advance even if you don't do it!

My packet was submitted in late January, it's just so crazy to read about how all these timelines are different. I am in no way complaining, and completely understand that calling won't yield me results, but you'd think by now they'd have a system in place.

I submitted mine very late November 2018, received notice on December 5th, and was approved March 2nd, (barely 3 months and mine goes all the back to 2009 when I was medically retired) so it seems like it's definitely improved. I wasn't expecting it until October minimum.

3 months seems to be the current average, which is cool. Just wish they'd give feedback similar to the MEB process. No worries, I'll keep waiting. In the event I need to submit an appeal I'll make sure to reach out to this forum.

The best way I found to check on it is at Human Resources Command's website. I haven't even gotten it yet in the mail but can read it there.
