PCM Forgot to Initiate MEB

Hey all! Created this account just to ask this question. Background:
Active duty Army Officer diagnosed with bilateral PE's in September 2018. It has been determined that I will be on blood thinners for the rest of my life. PCM said this will initiate a referral to the DES. On 18 March 2019, my PCM said that he will refer to DES. When I went to go print out my profile, PULHES is 111111. I believe my provider forgot to put in my profile and refer to DES. I sent an email to the provider with no response. My question is - what do you think the best course of action will be to take to get my profile completed? Thanks in advance!

Set up an appointment to talk to your provider directly.

I have already set up an appointment. That appointment isn't until 29 April. I was looking for a more streamlined approach. So far I have sent an email as well as put in a T-con.

If you feel the situation is urgent then Patient Advocate would be the route to take, they are usually located at the main clinic or hospital

I agree with @oddpedestrian's first post. PCMs see lots of patients and sometimes the paperwork gets low priority. Hopefully your visit on the 29th will spur his/her memory.

Hey all. I went back to my PCM today. He said he will put in the permanent profile and refer me to the MEB immediately. I went back to print my profile and he put a P2 profile in. PULHES reads 211111. Even though he put a P2 profile in, can I still be referred to the MEB?

He must not think this is nearly as serious as you are implying I see probably a severance as your final outcome. P3 is what you are looking for-for a MEB retirement.

I’m not worried about the outcome of the diability rating. I want to see how I get this straightened out. He and I have already talked about the med board. We have agreed on it for a couple of months. 3 different providers have said I will be on lifelong anticoagulation. This makes me non-deployable to several locations world-wide. I believe this is a case of the provider not knowing how to go about the process. So I’ll repeat my question - is there a way to be referred to the DES without a P3 profile? Such as a letter, email, consult, etc.

Unfortunately, there is NO OTHER WAY TO BE REFERRED TO IDES WITHOUT A P3 PROFILE. Once your PCM puts in a P3 profile for your bilateral PE, NOT A P2, it will automatically be routed to the IDES/MEB office @ your base, and then, a MEB physician (who is the final approving authority) will go through your medical records to justify signing the P3 profile. When he does sign the profile, then your MEB process begins.

FOR NOW: You will need to call, make an appointment and/or request a T-CON for your provider to remind him about the P3. Unfortunately, many PCMs are not familiar with how the IDES/MED process works, and they tend to mess it up for many service members.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I was just given word that he his writing a letter to the DES physician. This is what he does to send people for MEB referral.

Hey all... I have an update. Referral to IDES was done on 21 June. The referring physician did not give me a P3 profile. IDES called to schedule, and eventually reschedule an appointment with the IDES physician. This was done on 30 July. I was given a P3 profile and my initial counseling with my PEBLO also happened on that day. Once the P3 profile is signed off by the IDES boss, then I will be receiving a call from the MSC to schedule my VA exams.

I was given a pretty strict profile, which included verbiage that I have not seen on any other profile. This gives me more hope that I will be found UNFIT as opposed to FIT and nondeployable.

Another update. I met with my MSC today. Total of 11 claims (only 1 referred condition - PE which requires indefinite anticoagulation). I would have liked it to say recurrent PE, but I can discuss that at dictation. Also met with my commander for the DA 7562. She asked whether or not I wanted to be retained and I said I did not want to be retained. My mental health VA exam is scheduled for 8/12 and my Medical VA exam is 8/21.

Unless I have any issues with the packet, I should have it submitted to San Antonio NLT 1 September. Also, my PEBLO said he has been getting FIT/UNFIT memos back within 10-14 days. So I might know my future by the end of September. I will keep everyone posted. Does anyone have any questions about my process? So far it has been relatively seamless once I was referred properly.

Hey man I know it’s been a couple of years but…

So I’m supposedly being referred for a medboard, I do not have a p3 profile yet, but I don’t meet medical retention standards under AR 40-501. Did IDES call you when you didn’t have a p3 profile yet? If so, who issued your p3?

Your PCM request a P3 and requests a MEB/IDES. There is a lot that is done in the backend. When you get referred to IDES they give you a P3 profile as its part of the paperwork.
