Chances of active duty?

Hello all,

Thanks in advance for your input. My current situation is that I have a 10% DoD rating and was found unfit to return to duty (appointment where this was assessed was about 3 minutes long). I am in medical school at the moment on a combination scholarship/vocational rehab (chapter 31).

Here's where I'm at: I understand better the nature of my health condition. I have coping strategies and while I still deal with depression and PTSD, I deal with them effectively. Right now if I could, I would rejoin the military as a doctor when I'm done with training.

Do I appeal the decision and try and get deemed fit? If so, do I go back on active duty to my old community/MOS and leave medical school? Do I forfeit vocational rehab?

If I am unfit now, does that mean in 3 years when I'm done with training I'm still unfit? Is this a bridge that once I cross I can't come back from? Any advice or thoughts?

Thanks so much everyone.

Opinion:

As you stated, you have been found to be "unfit" to continue your military career.

I think it is unlikely that an appeal would result in you being found to be fit to continue your military career. Again, this is an opinion.

Being found unfit does not change after three years or any number of years. The military career is over. However, I suppose an application for correction to military records could be submitted, but usually the individual is attempting to increase the percentage of disability to qualify for retirement.

Good luck in your future endeavors...

You're welcome.

I edited the quoted material since I had added another sentence after I first replied. This was added:
"However, I suppose an application for correction to military records could be submitted, but usually the individual is attempting to increase the percentage of disability to qualify for retirement."
