Newby Questions - Ret-eligible SNCO pending MEB

Apologies up front as I'm sure these questions have already been answered somewhere - appreciate any insights -

I'm AD USAF E9 w/ 22 yrs of Service facing (what I think is) a pending MED for stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease. (Upon my recent PCS, my new PCM says, "... so, I see you've had CKD for a few years, have you ever been referred to an MEB?... uh, No!" I've now been referred to the DAWG). At the risk of getting ahead of myself... I'm wondering what exactly I'm facing and more importantly what are my options? Do I have any? Although I don't have an approved retirement date in the system, I really don't see myself serving more than 24 months regardless. What is the impact of a potential medical retirement vs a regular retirement? Should I get in front of this by applying for retirement and relying on a VA rating or let the process work it's self out?

Thanks for the help.

No, do not drop retirement papers, just go through the process and see what the outcome is.

The worst that can happen is that your career can be cut short due to the CKD if it is unfitting.

If that happens, ideally you will receive a rating that is favorable to you (based upon all of your medical conditions that have piled up over 22 years) which will result in a nice VA C&P award that you will able to collect concurrently with your length of service retirement awarded to you are the completion of your MEB/PEB.

If you found fit for duty, you can continue to serve and drop your retirement papers on your own terms.
