    PEB/MEB Guard Member

I did apply for supplemental with the VA with the new records of my MEB report and new neurologist exam. It’s still was denied as not being “diagnosed”? COVID-19 could have prevented VA examiner on doing a proper exam, he stayed 6 feet away the entire time. I can ask for “higher level review”...

    PEB/MEB Guard Member

My medical retirement was finalized in May 2020. I received a lot of help from this website for the past two years and wanted to conclude my story for others to learn from. Many times people don’t ever tell us what finally happened so we are left wondering. This long post will be interesting for...

    Traditional Guard Medical Retirement

Is the DBQ part of the VA file you can request in writing from the VA. I know I should get a hold of that VA file but thought I had to wait one year? Part of my VA claim is still open. I know what the DBQs are but did not receive copies during the C&P exam. Also I have 27 good years so I am...

    Traditional Guard Medical Retirement

Sorry, it’s always better to get the medical retirement but many give up since they get a high VA rating, and the local medical unit “rolls their eyes” because it’s a pain in the rear for them to gather the required documents. It’s just funny to hand over your VA medical rating and the doctors...

    Traditional Guard Medical Retirement

Chief, I am also 49 and a 0-5. I have 18 years of points. I transferred to Guard after 10 years of active duty. I also have a 90% rating from the VA. I was in a plane crash, had a cargo door fall on me, and have Bipolar. I have at least 8 combat deployments. If you try for a medical...

Reservist found Unfit For Retention, requested PEB but confused on process

Can you send me a copy of your checklist. I have no clue what my medical unit is up to, but from history it’s never good for the member. Why can’t they just follow the regulations. In their mind all Reservists are non-duty related even if you have 19 years of active duty. You only go to an...

Guilt for wanting a medical retirement

So it is laziness usually. I have a Guard Flight Doc arguing my VA results are wrong, no way it’s duty related. 27 good years with 18 active. They had me all set up for a non-Duty IPEB, now they don’t know what to do. I’ll be non retained soon.

Guilt for wanting a medical retirement

The BP was rated at 50%, and the rest were all rated 20%, neck, back, knees, thyroid, hypertension. Once I received my VA rating my units medical unit changed. Since I’m Guard they figured everything is non duty related. Typical. ANG unit’s now a days recruit active duty member at the 10 year...

Guilt for wanting a medical retirement

Do you think it’s really over the paperwork or he just thinks I’m working the system? I feel unsure my self and don’t want this diagnosis that could be wrong. It’s a long road to a medical retirement and I’m wondering if it’s tough for everybody. I have plenty of other conditions but I guess...

Guilt for wanting a medical retirement

Active Duty 10 years/Guard 16 yrs 6800 points 90% VA / unfit condition Bipolar My Guard unit has been fighting me every step of the way. When I got my VA rating they were shocked. New guys in medical that don’t know our history. I was asked to just voluntarily retire by Chief Flight Doctor...

    PEB ahead of VA ratings

Make sure your are going to an MEB first. That might be sending you to a non-duty PEB. It’s faster for sure, but not very good news

    LOD For PTSD

I am speaking from a Guard or Reserve point of view. Most guys I fly with have 10 years active duty before joining the Guard. I like to “shout” that out when I can. Most people don’t realize

    LOD For PTSD

I have had LODs done before. I have 3 in my file for injuries. Cut and dry type of stuff. Mental health issues like PTSD I am still trying to figure out how they do it. LODs have a 180 day time limit. Most people that have PTSD don’t develop or report those symptoms within 180 days. What...

    LOD For PTSD

Thanks. Keep me posted on where your at. It only took 6 weeks for me to get my VA rating. I’m unfit for Bipolar. Before the VA rating I was definitely headed to a non-duty PEB. Now the Med Group (our one NCO) is unsure what to do. He will figure it out. My reading of the AFIs for the...

    LOD For PTSD

You must have a good ANG medical unit. Mine is clueless and typically does nothing until the member contacts the State. The NCOs are trained in the process (one) but it’s a single point of failure. One NCO decides what’s LOD or MEB worthy because the rest of the traditions and doctors have no...

    LOD For PTSD

If you figure it out let me know. How did you initiate the LOD? I was going to request an LOD to my commander. There is an AFI on LODs. I also read that older events from past active duty sometimes require higher approval authority thus taking forever. I was considering keeping my LOD to...

Reservist found Unfit For Retention, requested PEB but confused on process

Luckily I just got my VA results back. I did the VA first just to see if they would cover it. They did. First thing my medical unit did was ground me from flying for a non duty related event. I then gave them the VA summary, and they are scratching their heads. Medical will find a way out...

Reservist found Unfit For Retention, requested PEB but confused on process

I have just recently figured this out. It embarrasses me greatly to request an LOD, but I got to just get over it. I will talk to my commander and the next drill. Luckily we have known each other for 17 years and are both 0-5s. Just hard to tell a friend I need an LOD for a mental issue.
