13 mths till retirement....feeling lost

I am so glad to hear things worked out. A couple things for your knowledge.

1. You would have still been able to retire...it would have been modified to your years. Anything over 15 years the service member is allowed a modified retirement
2. This is not written anywhere..and if you asked they would stick to a written policy response...however, when someone is that close to retirement, the people in the PEB working the orders tend to lean toward getting the person to their 20 when they are that close. The LAS has just come into play over the last 4-5 years and is there for exactly a situation as yours.

Very excited for your future. Best wishes.
Can you or anyone explain how anything over 15 years there is a modified retirement?

Hello,

The statement about a 15 year retirement is incomplete and therefore misleading in my opinion.

Without writing an essay :
—TERA retirement is offered at 15 years for certain individuals (excluding Army)
—A 15 year letter of NOE Is issued for RC components personnel who
can retire if facing a disability discharge. They are not eligible for Concurrent Receipt (used to be CRDP)

I see...I am not familiar with what TERA retirement is nor Concurrent Receipt. I will have to do some more digging...

The air force doesn't currently offer TERA unfortunately. Crdp is only for 20+ year retirees if you want to short of it.

The term CRDP is no longer officially in use by DoD for current retirements.

See DFAS Info for Concurrent Receipt of Military Retired Pay and VA Compensation- Interpretation of Laws <—-LINK

The treatment of residual retired pay has changed also for those eligible for “Concurrent Receipt”. The eligible retiree receives concurrent receipt for the longevity portion of retired pay and the amount in excess of longevity is waived in Concurrent Receipt cases (Ch 61).
