Hey all. Here is my timeline so far. Does this seem right?
*April 2023*
PCM put me on MEB list
They do brief at Med Group, agree I should go on MEB
PCM says she needs to gather paperwork and send to AFPC.

*No contact from anyone in regards to MEB*

*29 July 2022*
First Sergeant says he wants to talk about if I want to be retained or not. Has to write up letter for CC to sign.

Does this seem correct? Lastly, how important/big of an impact is the letter from the CC if you want to be retained or not? Please let me know.

XxAntiHero625X,

This is approximately where I am at. I was put on MEB list Feb 2023. Our PEBLO quit, so nothing was done until mid-May 2023 after I asked a different provider for an estimated timeline. At that point they hadn't even started IRILO yet. AMRO board met late-May and recommended RILO. Code 37 was applied about a month later. Took a lot of assistance from Patient Advocate (highly recommend) to get dots connected and accurate updates passed to my command team. They were still running with outdated info from late January, despite my bi-monthly updates to my old Shirt and supervisor. Here we are 1 Aug 2023...NARSUM not yet submitted, but my new command team is awaiting official notification to submit their Impact Statement. Still haven't heard a peep from my PEBLO, but I make sure to reach out at least once a week and keep my own records. My key takeaways from this process: 1) don't assume things will be done automatically, 2) communication is highly inefficient and odds are that you have a better sight picture of the overall status than most individuals involved, 3) exceptions to policy are a catch-all to take as much time as desired (for them, not you), 4) research the process and stay informed through whichever means are available to you, and 5) PEBLO retention incentives and pay need elevated attention. Air Force/DoD/taxpayers are spending significantly more on delayed servicemembers' separations through continued salaries and benefits, time-in grade, promotions, high-36 increases, etc. than a modest increase in PEBLO funding. My personal opinion is that these delays can be a great benefit to many servicemembers, but it comes at a cost that I am sure many of the decision-makers would prefer to see spent in other places. Sorry for hijacking your post--I can post separately if the mods prefer. This forum has been the single most accurate source of gouge for me through this process, take that for what you will. My base (Tinker) is stating 6-12 months from their submission to AFPC until DOS. My best guess is that we're about a month out from submission at this rate, so 7-13 months in my circumstances. And this is for an unambiguous do-not-retain guidance from the MSD for multiple conditions. I had planned to appeal at the beginning of all this but seeing the objective MSD guidance and the lack of support from various supervisors, I think I'm ready to punch. I would hate to see what this looks like for a grey-area case. Hopefully Langley has a more efficient workflow and enough resources to process your case quickly or at least within DoD guidelines, if that is what you desire. Cheers

Thanks for the post buddy! Feel free to keep posting on here if you like!

Finally heard from the PEBLO today. So I'm waiting for my leadership to send the CC impact letter back to PEBLO. I alrdy put comments and signed it. Then they take that and package to AFPC to determine if return to duty or get discharged.

So as of today. That's where my stuff stands

I'm also at Tinker! I was notified I was going through an MEB in January 2023. Still haven't heard from PEBLO or anything. Literally NOTHING.

Plus, mine states specifically that my diagnosis and treatment plan don't meet retention standards in DoDI 6130.03 Vol 2, Medical Standards for Military Service: Retention.

Damn dude! That is crazy!!!

The medical at Tinker AFB sucks when I was there in 2015-2018. The PCM's changed way too often and they didn't have enough docs to serve military dependents. I hope its a bit better now!

I have discussed these issues with my providers-apparently they are well-known problems internally at Tinker. The preferred methodology is attrition: if a member is already separating or within a year of their contract/commitment expiring, their case gets pushed to the bottom of the priority bucket. This is with the expectation that the member will get frustrated and separate voluntarily. If you're at Tinker expecting an MEB and you don't have a code AAC 37/DAV 42 yet, meet with your PCM to get an updated AF469/profile with the "MEB", "Mobility Restriction", and "Duty Restriction" boxes checked. It should also have the appropriate PCS/mobility restrictions listed in the body of the form in vague but plain language. Forward that to your Shirt/CC or take directly to MPF for them to input into your record. It isn't optional for them to code you and protects your due process from an untimely deployment or PCS. I have yet to see any DoDI or AFI that states that MEBs are optional once referred and coded 37. With all of the quarterly audits and external reporting, one would think that someone's feet would be held to the fire by NAF or possibly higher.

I think there is a lot of delay on your case.

I feel like I read so many posts that have completely different steps than my current timeline.
For instance my current process
19 April 23 - Unfit condition triggered MEB. The surgeon told me to activate the MEB with my PCM but I did not because I wanted to commission. Three weeks later the condition became worse so I went to the ER and after that my PCM found the MEB request in my med records.
17 May 23 - AMRO meeting, Code applied
18 May 23 - Post DAWG questionnaire sent to me by PEBLO
12 JUNE 23 - Notification by PEBLO to my cc that I was require an IRILO and CIS is needed.
15 June 23 - CIS statement signed
26 June 23 - Narsum completed, PEBLO notified me that it was sent to AFPC
5 July 23 - AFPC directed FUL MEB
13 July 23 - VA MSC appointment
23 July- 1 Aug 23- VA Appointment (QTC) completed

That’s too bad

I am at Pope AAF and I think the MEB process over here is very quick.

I wrote my own cc impact statement letter than gave it to cc so he can add or subtract what he wants. The intent is to have a 1 on 1 with your cc about your condition and concerns I personally feel like your shirt to need leave this part alone

Ya idk. I told me about it while I was on leave. Already sent it to me filled out and signed by the CC. I just filled up my notes at the bottom and signed it.

Well if it’s something you want then it saves you a meeting but if you want to stay in then something you can address

Well PEBLO told me today AFPC decided against my CCs and my opinion on wanting to retain. They said push forward with full MEB. Got my brief tomorrow with PEBLO. She said I can try to appeal AFPCs decision. Anyone with experience for that kind of appeal?

Once full MEB is directed you have like a 3% chance of being retained. If you fight the MEB you will likely end up getting a lower percentage and perhaps even just get separated rather than retired. My advice is to just focus on getting all of your conditions appropriately documented to maximize your rating and get out with a good outcome. Best of luck!

Damn, they can really decrease your percentage for trying to appeal their decision? And also change it from medical retirement to medical separation??

Langley here also, did you ever find out when your cc letter got back to your peblo? And did you also have to wait for a decision from the local board before being submitted to afpc? (Currently going through meb, I’ve returned my cc letter to my peblo and I’m on the local board step) just wondering on a timeline for the decision from afpc.

I would also like to know your recent experiences with AFPC turnaround. Assuming my CIS is submitted this week and the NARSUM is done, is 2 weeks a realistic expectation for an answer? I am standing by to start SkillBridge applications but my understanding is that I need an FL4 to get the exception to policy approved. Is this still accurate? Anyone have recent experience with that process?

I’m in the exact same boat as you and you are correct, so far it’s been a week since it was sent up for retain/do not retain, hoping to hear something next week. Contact your ed center to start the process and get the forms etc
