Air Force March IPEB Packages

Mine was sent 4 March, and by reading some of the other posts here lately, i am hoping for some kind of response soon. I have been diagnosed with Spinal Bifida, with 2 herniated disks. Was told by surgeon downtown that only way to fix it was to fuse my L5-SI, and he said he wouldnt do it since i am still relatively young. I hope i hear something soon, my laison here on base doesnt seem to care to call and at least check on the status of my package. Does anyone have a phone number or web site that i can get so maybe i could find out for myself whats going on with my package? Glad to hear that some are getting results back, for the rest of us, we just gotta hang in there!

I thought it was fast too, until I saw they were actually requested in May and they're still not yet approved by ARPC. The bottom line is that AFPC had no authority to require new ones since they were for illnesses and the LODs already completed should have sufficed since I've been on active duty since Jul 2008. All this did was to delay my case even more.

I totally get what you are saying about AFPC not having authority since other LOD's should have covered those illnesses. I wonder who requested the "New" LOD's back in May? And does it mean that they knew then that this was likely to become an issue with your package and cause more delays?

Peblo called, said come get results pkg. Stated results were 30% TDRL...Still have to go sign for package (but can't leave work yet....per boss).

Thing is two days after pkg was sent I started my second course of prednisone...and they have changed doses but kept me on it continuously since...wouldn't that make my rating higher? (depending on what they count as a course of prednisone? the doctors now consider my asthma to be oral prednisone dependent...and depending upon how many courses (and how they define a course) you have taken of this starting at 3 the percentage begins at 60% for this...). This is result I expected based on info sent up. BUT should I ask for amendment based on further med treatment that happened AFTER package was submitted? (Keep in mind I still have to see the results pkg....and I will take my time reviewing it to make sure it is right before I sign anything...)

Hi, I'm new to the site and this is the first thread I noticed. My package also was started in April and decided by the informal board unfit in November. I went to Lackland in Feb for the Formal Board, still found unfit so then submitted SAF letter. Still waiting. My PEBLO said there is a backlog of paper so it could take 6 months before I hear anything as apposed to the 6-8 weeks it should have taken. I'm fighting my case, so the longer I am in the more money I make until then.... so that is the last I heard on why it's taking so long, I guess there are lots of packages so it might take a little longer than what you were initially told.

So, got official results package after work. It truly does state 30% TDRL. The review board even acknowledged all the smoke I was exposed to almost daily from the burn pits over in afghanistan. BUT apparently they did not consider that a causal factor in my current condition, as section 10b is marked Line of duty yes, during wartime yes, but instrumentality of war no....Thing is, the first time I was deployed to Afghanistan, I did not have to work in that smoke every night as I worked the day shift. Therefore I was safe (from burnpit smoke) asleep in my relatively well built plywood hut...which had a heater/ac unit that filtered the air before blowing it into the living quarters. And I was fine after that trip The second time around, that smoke was everywhere in the work area, could not get away from it. Flightline looked like germany "pea soup" fog the smoke was so thick...and so did the inside of our work area...most nights (5-6 out of 7 per week)of the week. I believe this is a if not the causal factor in my condition. I am 30, never had any breathing issues before....do I fight for that box to get checked? Spouse says probably can't win that fight because even though they know that people are being harmed by burn pit smoke...they aren't going to admit it...I just don't want to lose that 30% rating. (Nor do I really want to be in anymore with all the other crap that has gone on but that is another story)

I am happy with the result overall. Based on the information in the package, 30% is the rating they should have come up with. TDRL i understand since they consider the condition unstable. Frankly I would have to agree with that too. BUT after the package went up I was placed on steroids and kept on them. Depending on the dose of the week, this provides (for the most part) more control than was present when the package went up...but there are a whole host of lovely side effects to deal with also. I have been on steroids continuously for over three months...(since just after pkg went up) with mixed results since dr. keeps adjusting dose every month. Instructions always read xx dose for xx days, then taper to xx dose for xx days...to the point where dose is changing almost weekly. And I notice a big difference between low lvl doses, mid lvl doses, and high doses of this stuff. Low doses seem useless, mid lvl doses help (practically a miracle pill...cept for the side effects/long term potential for dmg) High doses make me stupid/unable to function and drive blood pressure way up. No information about steriod treatment was in pkg since it started after the pkg was sent. VASRD states that 3 courses of oral steroids in a year warrant 60% rating. Am unsure if my three months of oral steroids plus the week or two they tried back in oct 09 is enough to gain this. Also not sure if it is worth fighting because I AM sure VA will rate me higher than 30% that DOD gave. Any advice out there? (Spouse says take the rating and run since got the retirement even if temporary....I am giving myself time to think it through, make sure am making the right decision),

I would take the rating because it is TDRL. On the re-exam, present the oral steroid argument and see if you can get it increased to 60%. If you are ready to leave and happy otherwise. Just my .02 cents, esp if you think you're going to end up taking VA $$. All you need is 30% to keep commissary, base access, TRICARE, etc. Just be sure you are following up with your Doc and be ready for the re-eval....AF is going to try to bump you down to severence.....it's ALL about the $$$.....be prepared!

My package was sent 1 March i recieved a phone call yesterday afternoon that my results are in i will findout on tuesday.

My package was sent 1 March. Got an email today saying my results are in. Have a results briefing in a half hour. I will let you know how it goes.

Good luck! Seems like today is the day for the 1st week of March timeframe. I take it you are NOT in the pilot program...correct?

Nate

No I am not in the pilot program. 20% Med Discharge with severance. Happy with it, and excited to be getting out and moving on.

Mine WOULD have been complete, except it got sent back to the MEB for more information. I'm not holding my breath.

I thought you'd qualify for a 40% TDRL--but if you're happy with a 20% SEV, more power to you. Good luck in your future and don't forget to apply for all your other entitlements including VA, SSDI, POST-VIETNAM GI BILL, and Unemployment Compensation. SO many people forget about the last one.

I feel numb right now! I just got my results back. 40% TDRL for Multiple Sclerosis. I also got 50% total from the VA for my 40% MS and 10% for Tinnitus. I also received a few 0 service connected ailments from the VA as well. I was in the pilot program at Andrews AFB and a WV Air National Guardsman. I am agreeing with the results and they will be sent back to AFPC and then the the NGB. Thanks for all your help and advice! This is an awesome website! My paperwork has the date of June 10th on it and I recieved the email from my PEBLO around 1PM today.

Congratulations! Remember to start documenting your current condition at least a few months before the TDRL re-exam so that will go as smoothly as possible. Best of luck in retirement!

Got my results 20%Med Discharge with severance pay Not happy with result i am going to decline and go to the Formal board any advise on what research i can do to make a case for more percentage

For those who've requested the formal board, have you heard yet on scheduling that? I've got another ROM done, and it's plainly putting my lower back at 20%, so I think I've got a good chance at getting my 30% up to 40%. Still haven't got a date though on the formal, and trying to figure out when that might happen. Thanks!
