All, the US DVA, at least in VISN16-Gulf Coast VA System, recently changed there MH VTC log-in from Cisco Jabber, to a new program, that IAW folks whom been military awhile looks like a watered down version of a system the US Military but in place to tele-conference secure long distances at around turn of this new Century!

Kudos, to US DVA, as new system is in fact, apparently, a whole lot easier to utilize, than the Jabber Cisco Program, especially for those not very computer literate! It, supposedly, does not require installing any software, the US DVA Providers simply supposedly send one simple email with a link to the veterans provided "civilian" email and the vet supposedly simply clicks on link and inputs their name supposedly!

Well, IAW some veterans in LA- or lower Alabama, they have simply been able to sign in to this system with a "version" of their name or even simple "ACME" from old "Warner Bros.(?)" cartoons Bugs Bunny, Wiley Coyote, Road Runner, Sylvester & Tewete bird, Tasmanian Devil, Yosemite Sam etc...... and apparently this has raised no "red-flags" so to speak on the "security" of this new system......despite being supposedly reported multiple US DVA Providers- VISN16/Gulf Coast VA.....

Couple of potential issues, above and beyond being able sign in a simple version a vet's name, above and beyond "ACME"...... one would simply think-

  1. Civilian email, like gmail, hotmail, etc.... as per a Congressman or Senator on news not very long ago, whom asked some folks how hard to hack an email, and found out not very difficult, as they testified.....
  2. No secondary, security "handshake" (computer jargon) involved, apparently- i.e. far-near recognition signal those familiar with passage of line, re-entry friendly line, stating this is in fact the veteran in question other than their name or version there-of....
Apparently, some veterans have recommended fixes, such as a CAC Card reader and chip in US DVA ID Card, using MHV Secure Messaging to send link, or either a second email or code to another device or phone veteran types in....but guess all have apparently simply fallen on "deaf" ears so to speak......

Wonder if any other vets out there have incurred this alleged issue with new system if being employed in their particular VISN or US DVA local VA System?????

This is a sad state of affairs, if occurring, as it simply "creates" trust issues not only with US DVA but entire system itself as veteran confidentiality is apparently potentially highly compromised!? Furthermore, VTC not only with US DVA, but worldwide, is becoming more the standard in MH treatment in particular- especially remote locations, except once again if one lives in LA (lower Alabama) and supposedly the local civil-authorities, in civil commitment proceedings, claim otherwise - i.e. apparently not acceptable level of care.....?????

Just wondered if anyone else out there has encountered this supposed issue.....with new VA VTC System??????

PS: Gulf Coast VA/VISN 16 supposedly just now upgrading their old computers to Windows 10 Platform from Windows 7- which could also cause various connection issues as well.....

(Still issues this site....)

Forgot to add, this is all very disconcerting, considering a former DAV (Disabled American Veterans) National Commander from the LA (lower Alabama Area), supposedly volunteers extensively at Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 clinics- Vet Centers, and is a 100% disabled veteran themselves, whom retired(?), believe IAW old internet bio, a career as a computer specialist(?) or some such(?).....

Just simply, and hope not only one...as they say, "things that make one say humph???".....perhaps....hopefully others will chime in and I am perhaps incorrect- would not be first time nor last- as not a IT/Computer expert, but simply apparently no feedback Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 this particular possible huge issue???????

Thanks......

Well ALL- as usual this must simply be a Gulf Coast VA/VISN-16 or LA (lower Alabama) exclusive issue????? Funny vet in question has sent, over course last few weeks pictures of them login new US VA VTC in with US VA Providers as "Fog Horn Leghorn"- of "ChickenHawk" renown; "Porky Pig" etc.... via MHV Secure messaging with "no changie" !!!!

Apparently, this vet's VTC provider goes US VA, version of, TDY quite a bit, and were recently, among other places Tampa Florida Main VA, where funnily enough claimed vets could get special item like "coconut water" in chill pans located all over facility (wonder if high-end chill pots from manfuactures like Pelican, Yeti, etc..for example only, as welll- as Tampa close enough fishing and other outdoor activities????) as well as a basically 4 to 5-Star Cafeteria vet's and staff get all sorts specialty items made order all day like omelets...... Sounds like a veteran paradise...

Can anyone confirm or deny, what vet told about Tampa VA.....????

Thanks and will assume the assumptiom this issue exists only in Gulf Coast VA System/VISN16!

Once again, I guess this issue must simply belong solely with the Gulf Coast VA Ssytem/VISN16 as apparently no one else appears to be experiencing it.....?????

"Marvin The Martian" (see for example only "Marvin the Martian" From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia at web-address: Marvin the Martian - Wikipedia ) somewhere within this new VA VTC Compuuter Progarm within the Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 system....??????

Thanks ALL.......guess nothing further discuss this issue......as appears no one else experiencing this within any VA local System or VISN???

(PS: still issues this web-site....)

ALL- as they say a picture is often worth a thousand words, so here goes, a picture of a vet Gulf Coast VA System/VISN16 signed in actually as "Marvin The Martin"?????

3645

Well hope this assist's in clarifying the more than likely "security" issue with Gulf Coast VA System/VISN 16.......??????????

ALL_the above post #6 must once again simply be a Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 issue, along with perhaps "cleanliness" and infection control issues...resulting vet's getting sick every time visit any facility in a particular US VA System like Gulf Coast VA/VISN16!!

Know another "vet" kind of like from PEB Forum Thread "Best States for Disabled Veteran" Thread starterusafaviator start date Nov 19, 2012, issues getting sick when ever visited any Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 facility.... and ststed vet claims since not visited Gulf Coast VA facility almost 6-months not sick to point having visit non-VA primary care/ER all the time.... as was doing....guess that too simply Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 stand-alone issues as well?????

Might want to see for example only following web-address/ article: VA hospitals report lower death rates than non-VA facilities, USA Today finds: As of June 30, most VA hospitals reported lower death rates than non-VA facilities, according to a USA Today analysis.

Anyway- all this, like image in Post#6 above must simply be Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 issues alone......??????

Thanks all......

(PS: Still issues this web-site, somehow...)

ALL- just thought update- vet know once again signed in Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 new VTC System as "Speedy Gonzales" per picture Post #6 above....

Apparently they asked their US VA Provider what Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 was doing about it, if anything, and supposedly answer Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 Leadership was it was up to the US VA Provider to positively identify the veteran themselves....???? Couple issues, as supposedly, once again, US VA Provider, themselevs, mentioned, what if veteran a new patient, never seen before, or a patient not seen in a very long time....?????

This speaks nothing of fact that perhaps virtually anyone, with proper training, could potentially hack into the VTC live feed by simply knowing email, time of appt., and or ISP provider, etc.....

However, once again, this simply appears to be a Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 issue- as no one else this Forum seems to be having theses problems.....

Additionally, per PEB Forum Post on new Fisher Houses, that have apparently saved disabled vets, family members-caregivers over 18-million USD on lodging, etc..., very few US VA Providers, Gulf Coast VA System, it appears, per vet above, seem to know that there is actually a Fisher House on adjacent Military Base to HQ Gulf Coast VA in Biloixi , MS ... one could also say that is very odd as well, among numerous other things..........perhaps????

Oh well such is, apparently, state of affairs Gulf Coast VA/VISN16......?????

Thanks, All.......and since all this appears to be indicative solely of Gulf Coast VA/VISN16, one should perhaps factor this all in , if one considering re-locating the "sought after" Sunny Northern Gulf Coast Region of US.., per PEB Forum Thread "Best States for Disabled Veterans" .....perhaps?????
