Banging My Head Against The Wall - Army CRSC

#1
Hi guys and gals,
I've been trying to help my husband apply for CRSC for years- and every time we try, we get so overwhelmed by the process we give up.

The biggest challenge we face is knowing what kind of paperwork/documentation he needs to include for proof of his injuries (he was shot in Afghanistan and has a 100% rated VA medical retirement). I literally have duffle bags and backpacks full of unorganized paperwork, files, xrays, etc and don't even know what I'm looking at.

-AND-

When trying to fill out the CRSC paperwork- I don't understand what is considered a secondary injury (i think that's how it was worded). For example, he has a 70% for PTSD- but in our opinion, he wouldn't have the G.D. PTSD if it weren't for getting shot. So wouldn't PTSD be secondary to the injury, even tho the percentage is higher then the % he has for his physical injuries?

None of phone numbers I tried to call seem to even work. I get to enjoy 40 minutes of elevator music before I'm bounced around to no one who's helpful, or there's just no answer at all.

Does anyone know of an office I can call for help or info on what kind of proof he needs? Or do you have any suggestions on what paperwork I should include? (his medical record is literally hundreds of pages, he had 11+ surgeries over the course of 2 years)

I'll cut to the chase on this one. If he was shot and has PTSD, it should not be to hard to get approved for CRSC based on Purple Heart for both conditions.

Contact the Military Order of the Purple Heart, they are a VSO and should be able to assist you in completing the application. http://www.purpleheart.org/

So in the checklist of items on the HRC website, it says to submit the CRSC app, DD214, VA rating decision, and medical records ----> and that's the part I always get stuck on. I have literally hundreds, possibly into the thousands of papers, and I'm sure they don't want all that (in fact I've heard they'll deny it if you send too much info for them to sort thru...

I imagine the info on the HRC website isn't even up to date since the DD 2860 they reference is from 2011....

I recently was approved, all my disability was combat related. I sent my DD 214 showing purple heart, medical records of my injuries, and my VA paperwork. My medical records that I included just showed that I had indeed been injured. I didn't send all the followup stuff.

Within the Army's instructions is a comment stating only the medical documents applicable to the claimed combat related disabilities should be forwarded (along with other required info).

The fact the edition of the form is not current has nothing to do with the instructions and recommendations. They remain static in my opinion.

Deny if too much is sent to them? I serious doubt that...

Good luck,
Ron
