MiTT,

Here are a few websites that give further gouge on West Virginian vet benefits:

Military.com's BLUF on WV vet benefits

West Virginia DVA site IRT vet benefits

PDF document giving more detailed gouge from retirement homes to license plates for vets.

One thing I've noticed is that West Virginia seems to give more benefits to 100% T&P vets than lesser-rated vets - kind of B.S., so I think I'm going to do my part to reach out to my local state congressman and ask why. I'm not personally knowledgeable about outdoor benefits, as I tend to keep to myself, and only go out when I need to...but that's another discussion for another time.

Regardless of benefits/no benefits, West Virginia still beats the DMV with property taxes and overall cost of living. I was able to get a 1 acre property, 3 bed-2.5 bath, 2 car garage home for 190k. My annual property tax is ~ $1100, and the home met VA home loan standards. I couldn't spend anything CLOSE to 190k inside the beltway (around DC) and get a decent house in a decent neighborhood.

Oh, and I've always wondered what's with the huge satellite dishes over at Ft. Detrick. You can see them down the road from the Barquist Army Health Clinic. Maybe the Army's spooks work there??? LOL. Seriously though, had I not moved to West Virginia and got my PCM reassigned to Ft. Detrick, I would be a veteran right now AND still suffering from all my issues. Thankfully, my doctor actually LISTENED to me (opposed to my Navy docs through my career), and I am now going through the IDES process a year after I was supposed to separate. I can't change my body and pain, but I know how d*mn lucky I am, as there are vets who got shown the door with unresolved medical issues.

That is a great idea......legalbeagle...and best of luck writing your state congressman....

LOL- who knows, lot of "science fiction" written and spoken about Fort Detrick... believe it was also actually on a episode of TV show "The Americans" ..... see for example only, website: Fort Detrick - Wikipedia "Fort Detrick" From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia then look under "In popular culture".....????

Anyway. wonder if you are anyone else knows anything about Kentucky and how it is for veterans... oddly among the great number of out of state tags and car stickers abundant in LA's Eastern shore are UK- University of Kentucky- stickers and license plates! Know UK in Lexington, KY huge medical school and works with US VA there.....as many universities do...?

Only few similarities I know of between LA and KY are cave systems such as the below for an and example only:

- https://www.google.com/destination?q=mammoth+cave+national+park&rlz=1C1PRFI_enUS778US778&site=search&output=search&dest_mid=/m/0hr86&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj_65fLm73gAhUBTt8KHT29DH0Qri4wJnoECBEQAw#dest_mid=/m/0hr86&tcfs=EhoaGAoKMjAxOS0wMy0wMxIKMjAxOS0wMy0wNw "Mammoth Cave National Park-National park in Kentucky"

- List of Caves in Alabama: Locations and Map - StartCaving "List of Caves in Alabama: Locations and Map" Written by Jim Belt

-https://www.google.com/search?q=state+US+most+natural+cave+systems&rlz=1C1PRFI_enUS778US778&oq=state+US+most+natural+cave+systems&aqs=chrome..69i57.18401j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Guess above info would be great disabled vets into spelunking???

The other similarity between KY and LA, I can think of is horses and horse breeding? I mean one town in LA's Baldwin County actually has a real Polo Field...among other things....???

Anyway, would be interesting to know what anyone out there "disabled veteran" wise actually knows about the Great State of Kentucky?

Thanks

Leagalbeagle- by the way between Fort Detrick, something I never knew existed "National Reconnaissance Office" From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from US NRO) until mentioned by local vet at for example only, National Reconnaissance Office - Wikipedia, the biography for City Council President Local Town in LA's Bio at, for example only, Fairhope City Council | City of Fairhope, AL and all the US Military contractor's and other US Government Organizations all Florida-Alabama-Mississippi-Texas Gulf Coast, as well as number "prominent" authors that resided LA's Eastern Shore that were associated at one point US Military Intelligence, during their Military Careers, and the role Alabama played in arms manufacturing during the US Civil War as well as both World Wars, a good science fiction writer or true "conspiracy theorist" could in fact have a field day....perhaps...?????? Wonder if NRO will get folded under US Space Force..as seems yet again redundant functions..in Federal Government but could be wrong...????

(PS: still issues this web-site!)

Leaglebeagle- you got me to laughing... as throw in a few North American Ley Lines, ala movie "Ghost Busters", etc...for example only, and see for example only web-address: north american ley lines - Google Search, and as stated authors such as JD Salinger, W.E.B. Anyway- pretty funny..and thanks for the laugh....

Although am very curious about Kentucky, if anyone knows were stacks up for disabled veteran friendly.....?????????

Leaglebeagle - ALL- was hoping for some "boots on the ground" insight into "Commonwealth of Kentucky" but barring that this is what I found out, and perhaps others interested as well per below web-sites, for example only:

Surprised to learn per second web-site listed above state of Alaska number one, supposedly, and Kentucky is 21st......and Alabama is number 10 due apparently "large number veteran owned businesses" ......

Anyway hope this assist others, and would still like hear someone "experience" Kentucky......?????

Leaglebeagle - ALL- thanks.....

PS:
As with most things, there is always an upside and a downside, take for instance above web-article "The Best States for Veterans-SmartAsset" while it states specifically (below quoted/cited directly from listed article in bold "italic"): "Alabama cracks our top 10 because it has the highest veteran business ownership rate in the country. More than 11.2% of businesses in the Yellowhammer State are veteran-owned. The state’s veterans also have a relatively high income after housing – $29,025 on average."

Take for instance the $29,025 income number after housing, and say one, for example only, was a 100% disabled veteran making per, for example only, at web-address : Veterans Compensation Benefits Rate Tables - Effective 12/1/18 - Compensation "$3,057.13" at 100% disabled rate, then potentially add in Social Security income...., then example disabled vet would be in fact making more than the $29, 025 listed for veterans in Alabama, as well as perhaps some First Responders- one could potentially see where some human elements could factor in, especially if disabled veteran, as example only again, not missing any limbs or wheel chair bound- and perhaps not even then, irrespective of fact might have numerous other issues unseen "naked" eye.....????????

Just something to think about, perhaps, in one's decision cycle to re-locate, as well as other "implications" regarding large number veteran owned businesses- both good and some no so.......potentially? Could be wrong...and please correct me if so.....as the "human nature" element is always a factor" in most things....?????

Leaglebeagle - ALL - thought might be interested in following, for example and information only, in Kentucky- see below web-address if interested:

- Conservative think tanks praise Gov. Bevin for healthcare policies

- The Health Care Choices Proposal: Charting a New Path to a Down Payment on Patient-Centered, Consumer-Driven Health Care Reform

Additionally, thought some might be interested in following definitions, for example and information only, please see bleow if interested:

- Definition of SOCIALIZED MEDICINE

- Definition of SOCIALISM

- Definition of NATIONALISM

- Definition of NATIONAL SOCIALISM

- Definition of COMMUNISM

It is interesting, perhaps, when one compares normal English Dictionary with the APA Dictionary of Psychology by the American Psychological Association.....

Take fore example and information only, the US VA's PRRTP Programs, see below web-address as example only...:

- Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment - Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System

Per the APA Dictionary mentioned above copyright 2007, on page number 756- "Psychosocial Rehabilitation" is defined as {following quoted/cited from APA Dictionary of Psychology-2007- page 756 in bold "italics"} : "the process of restoring psychological, behavioral, and social skills to individuals after mental illness, often with assistance from specialized professionals using focused programs and techniques. It aims to help individuals who have been residing in mental institutions or other facilities (e.g. prisons) to reenter the community."

Anyway Leaglebeagle - ALL- thought might be of interest to some out there, perhaps...... could be totally wrong, and if so please correct me????????

Leaglebeagle-ALL: at risk being accused hijacking a thread, simply thought would further update some things may be of interest to those considering relocated Gulf Coast Region- so if interested please see below web-links for example and information only- comments for reason posted only:

- mining Baldwin County Alabama - Google Search (Neighborhoods/Sub-divisions ,etc..being supposedly built on, over or near "expended" mines- "dredge ponds as they supposedly refer to them locally...???)

- https://www.facebook.com/Baldwin-County-Genealogical-Society-1681643152158993/ (IAW a local vet supposedly checked a local library this organization has only working old school micro-fiche readers in local Daphne-Floey-Fairhope area....???)

- genesight genetic testing - Google Search (DNA utilized trace family history, etc.... Kesslar AFB Biloxi supposedly has only local Genetics Lab in Region supposedly, per loacl veterans, MD's etc....???)

- searcy + meaning - Google Search

- Searcy Name Meaning, Family History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms

(Following quoted-cited bold "italics" from listed website above name "Searcy" can mean "Their name, however, is a reference to St. Saire, Normandy, the family's place of residence prior to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. Alternatively, the name could have been a trade name for someone who was "an assayer of metals." Interesting, given local "mining" operations and issues go along with them, etc.....???? Additionally, local vet did "time" Searcy MH Hospital mentioned in Post #47- Searcy Hospital had very ancient X-Ray Machine and would immediately take pateint X-Ray etc...and send for recycling to extract the silver, etc...in them...for reference on this and example only please see web-address: silver recovery x ray film - Google Search ) [Also interesting Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 was still utilizing old style X-Ray machines..etc... at facilities like HQ Gulf Coast VA in Biloixi, MS....UTC recently or still might be....???? If recycling X-Rays and other devices for silver and or salvage, were does money go.....interesting question perhaps a SuperModerator may know answer to...like does US VA have something like DRMO, etc....????]

Anyway Leaglebeagle-ALL hope this assists those considering relocating Gulf Coast Region of USA..could be wrong (?) so please correct and hopefully not hijacking a thread...if so SuperModerator please advise??????

Leaglebeagle-ALL: anyone from the State of Montana? Know local veteran visited Yellowstone National park recently and other whom visited whilst in transit to from East-West Coast , places like Washington State and Alaska. Yellowstone was phenomenal by all accounts and lots folks from various industries, like entertainment industry, buying houses and property nearby? Is this still the case, and can average veteran "afford" anything nearby Yellowstone and/or Mount Rushmore- in Black Hills??? Also, a veteran stated while at Yellowstone, saw "foreign" tour buses with Russians, etc..on board and wondered how got there....i.e. did bus cross on a ferry from Russia to Nome Alaska etc....? So below, out of curiosity and for example/information only may want to see following web-links:

- Yellowstone National Park - Book Tickets & Tours | GetYourGuide.com

- From Russia's rarely seen 'Yellowstone,' a plea for tourists

- World Heritage

- russia analyst blow up yellowstone - Google Search

Anyway, hopefully some those veterans from Pacific Northwest can hopefully answer some of the above from an actual "boots on the ground" perspective, which is much better than anything else, normally.....?????

Thanks...and greatly appreciate all feedback...hopefully some land out in Montana etc...near places like Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore-Crazy Horse, still affordable veterans..but could simply be wrong and appreciate any correction??????

It was brought to my attention that the US VA is in fact recommending Rural Jobs for veterans...see: Veterans have opportunity to grow with USDA and farming resources - VAntage Point

Alabama, was at one time a large agrarian state! Supposedly, per USPS, the Fairhope, Alabama area is a Rural Route- area- why USPS carriers, per rumor dod not have to wear official USPS uniforms in carrying out their delivery duties. Those veterans looking to seek "agrarian jobs" might want to look into this area, as not only does the University of Auburn Alabama, have test farm vicinity HWY-104 in Fairhope, AL, supposedly there are also jobs with the "mining" industry, as well as peanut farms, and grass-sod farms, etc...!

A bonus, is Fairhope Alabama sits astride Mobiles, Bay (and until the completion of Gulf State Pier- had/has one of longest pubic access Piers in the Gulf Coast region) and is not far from the fun and sun of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach and or Pensacola Florida beaches and the Casino's and beaches in Bilioxi -Gulf Port MS.

Would recommend those perhaps considering, a move to Alabama, first do their research first... as it can be quite difficult integrating into the local "colorful" culture, where apparently, rumor has it, on occasion they fly Pirate Flags and the LGBT Flag proudly at the Fairhope Pier. If true, this might offend some veterans and their families. Additionally, per local media Fairhope has had issues with those of Middle-Eastern Descent showing up and chanting loudly in the middle of the night on City of Fairhope Beaches- one can only wonder what were perhaps chanting, and apparently(?) all City Officials could do about was call one of the local Universities they might have been attending, as the noise, only(?), apparently upset those residing on the scenic bluffs and prime real estate overlooking the beaches. That too is a bonus for vets as there are numerous Universities vicinity this area as well. Finally, land in Baldwin County is quite expensive and not sure as in the old days "40-acres and a mule" will simply allow anyone to make living in the 21st Century by farming alone?

Thanks...and hope this assist's....

PS: The below websites may assits those interested relocating Alabama and in particluar Baldwin County-Fairhope Alabama:

Also, for those not inclined to Agrarian "very roman type lifestyle" and have the requisite skills there are supposedly plenty jobs aviation industry and related suppliers via AIRBUS, the AUSTAL shipyards for construction Littoral Combat Ship, Northrup Grumman, other ship-builders, BAE Systems, Port of Mobiles AL Authority, perhaps the City of Fairhopes AL Airport Authority,Banking Industry, Real Estate, Forestry and lumber products, Publishing- (Fairhope AL know as authors paradise), perhaps the Movie Industry, the Service Industry, and precious gem trading (Fairhope AL actually supposedly has a small diamond exchange apparently like those NYC at "The Shoppes at Fairhope Village"(?))... one just need do "homework" once gain.....?????

All- just a quick update, as those feeling patriotic, once again with the requisite skills- BAE Systems in Mobile, AL actually helps DOD by managing the Bradley Fighting Vehicle for the US Army for example.....

Hope this assists...at least one veteran out there....

PS: Might be interested in- Gross domestic product - Wikipedia for example as it was brought to my attention that if a company is actually, for example, a US Company located in a another country the profits do not count toward the US GDP..interesting..as if this metric, for example NATO member states to pay a certain percent of their GDP into their own defense...then how is this money captured in the GDP of a nation and member states of NATO must actually pay if not in GDP????? Could simply be wrong....but something, to ponder perhaps...if so inclined.??????

Also brought to my attention those vets out their interested may want to look into FSOT- the Foreign Service Officer Test/Exam by the US Department of State........perhaps????

Few other things prospective vets needs know about potentially relocating Baldwin County AL, IAW a few vets apparently the Falirhpe Police Department is a very "cherry" placement- IAW these vets apparently there are abouts 200-applicants(?) for every 1-job opening! Know there are ex-military police all services this website so mights be worth looking into.

Additionally, few issues with some generals infrastructures given all rapids growth, like cell service, water issues and internet issues, power outages-severe blips (supposedly one of many local power companies "squirrels" on the power lines, etc..), sewer water drainage, issues, to boot, etc... (So when looking for a home would recommend before purchase a home or rent an apartment, visit the location during one of normal summer-not Hurricane- deluges and see if street and yards flood, etc...) Heck supposedly even one vet spoke with had his cell phone on Bluetooth in a vehicle broadcasting all over the place and another when supposedly dials some person they know gets some "100 Black Men Of Mobile" type organization(?).....kind of weird....would not one say....

Also, there are all kinds of folks ex-military this area, that might benefit some older vets, like from UASRAK- even work the local US VA, the former I think Berlin Brigade, 101st ABN, 82 ABN, etc...working local auto dealership, other places, etc...so might be a plus for those seeking to re-establish old ties or vets maybe looking vets have something in commons with!

On a more serious note, one needs to be awares that all the growth has additionally left little room for the animals to go anywhere, including the rodents....(people actually been bitten wildlife per media) so a proper home inspection is a must to ensure do not have snakes under any raised flooring, walls, or attic as well as bees, hornets, raccoons, etc..in attics.....as some people have in fact had, apparently......

Might be interested in the following: Scientists warn of yellow jacket super nests in Alabama among many articles about this....

Rumor, again, has it a local vet got bitten Fairhope Public Beach - that non-residents must pay access- just before 4th of July weekend and the huge Fireworks display the City of Fairhope Alabama puts on every year, by a huge underground nest of yellow-jackets buried in a brush covered sand dune of all places(?)...... Apparently, rumor, once again, this vet stung so many times was told local DR that had been allergic would have been no way period to save them, and subsequently supposedly contracted some sort of virus from the stings...who knows..but if true would be something to consider those allergic or with children allergic bees, etc......

Finally, there are a host of good, supposedly, "Private Schools" in the Fairhope Alabama Area for those veterans with children and whom can afford such a luxury.....if not would recommend check out the education status of all Public schools in Baldwin, Mobile Counties, as well as State of Alabama in general.....

Thanks, and once again hope this helps some veterans out in deciding if want to relocate this area.....and best wishes and good luck....

I do not know if any of this has been helpfuls anyone- as simply no feedback (360-Feedback US Military Tries utilize but not recommend miliatry type organizations per quite a bit of literatures...)?

Anyway, came to my attention that the States of Alabama has so me very "squirrels" laws....like "No Trespassing"- see for example No Trespassing Signs Laws – What a Sign Can & Can't Do In All 50 States and Alabama Code Title 13A. Criminal Code § 13A-7-4 | FindLaw

IAW, once, again some Africa American folks and veterans have bee given a verbal- not written- no trespass order some local establishments and Big Box Stores the Fairhope Alabama vicinity.....

Supposedly attorney's no written notice need be given stating things like how long, which other stores perhaps in chain trespass order applies to, etc.... kid of bizarre nothing in writing given those by Law Enforcement supposedly under a no-trespass notice given the quite "severe penalties.....hummph...?

Anyway those considering relocating to Alabama, Baldwin County and potentially Fairhope Alabama might need to consider some of this, do some digging-home work, and if possible talk other vets whom potentially had issues State of Alabama, Baldwin County and Fairhope-Daphne-Spanish Fort-Foley-Gulf Shores-Orange Beach areas.... as well as thngs like below for examples:

https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/alabama below in "quotes" copied from listed web-site:

"Alabama Rankings
OVERALL RANKINGS

Read our methodology to see how the scores and rankings were calculated.

Thanks, and sincerely hope this greatly assists other vets potentially considering a relocation to Alabama....etc.....

Just thought follow-up on a few things those potentially looking relocate Alabama, Baldwin-Mobile Counties, Fairhope-Daphne-Spansih Fort-Foley, etc..or any where else in the State of Alabamas:

The saying "if see something, say something" is quite of a question in this area- i.e. supposedly local vet found some supposedly counterfeit money, and all they got for their trouble of reporting local authorities, was "civilly-committed" due to "upset someone local homeland security" supposedly????? If true might be something to consider as well as far as any potential relocation.....????

Next, in Baldwin County AL, particularly;y Fairhope AL, as stated, lot of banks moving into area no reason, and many locals do not understand why. Well one plausible explanation, some locals have proposed, is perhaps and US Native casino is about to open in the local vicinity, as same phenomenon- i.e. banks moving in, occurred other places in Alabama, before a Native American Casino opened that locale....but oddly nothing in media about this phenomenon nor any mention of a Native American Casino... even though locales all wondering what is going on, perhaps???? Might want see the following websites as and example:

-https://www.al.com/live/2012/06/alabama_indian_casinos_are_on.html below in "quotes" cited from listed web-site:

"But all three gambling halls — Creek Casino Montgomery, Creek Casino Wetumpka and Wind Creek Casino & Hotel in Escambia County, the tribe’s largest venue — could go the way of their shuttered competitors if anti-gambling state officials were granted the power to regulate them. "

- http://www.ncsl.org/research/state-tribal-institute/an-issue-of-sovereignty.aspx below in "quote" copied listed web-site:

"The Constitution gives authority in Indian affairs to the federal government, not to the state governments. Just as the United States deals with states as governments, it also deals with Indian tribes as governments, not as special interest groups, individuals or some other type of non-governmental entity. Some states have explicitly recognized the governmental status of Indian tribes through various state recognition processes."

- The Myth of Indian Casino Riches - IndianCountryToday.com below in "quotes" copied/cited listed wesite:

"Not every Indian gets money from casino profits. Whereas other gambling institutions may do as their stakeholders please with their net profits, tribal nations must follow strict rules. Per IGRA (25 USC 2710), gaming net profits may be used only to:
1) Fund tribal government operations or programs;
2) Provide for the general welfare of their members;
3) Promote tribal economic development;
4) Donate to charitable organizations; and
5) Help fund operations of local government agencies
This means the tribe must use gaming revenue to improve its infrastructure, develop education opportunities, and provide social programs for the people. Even if tribes want to distribute gaming revenue in per capita payments to their tribal members, they must first develop a “revenue allocation plan” and gain approval of the plan from the DOI Secretary."

Additionally, mentioned "360-Degree Feedback" those not familiar may want to see the following web-sites:

-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/360-degree_feedback below in "quotes" copied cited from listed website:

"Issues[edit]
Many 360-degree feedback tools are not customized to the needs of the organizations in which they are used.[5] 360-degree feedback is not equally useful in all types of organizations and with all types of jobs. Additionally, using 360-degree feedback tools for appraisal purposes has increasingly come under fire as performance criteria may not be valid and job based, employees may not be adequately trained to evaluate a co-worker's performance, and feedback providers can manipulate these systems.[9] Employee manipulation of feedback ratings has been reported in some companies who have utilized 360-degree feedback for performance evaluation including GE (Welch 2001), IBM (Linman 2011), and Amazon (Kantor and Streitfeld 2015).
Some members of the U.S. military have criticized its use of 360-degree feedback programs in employment decisions because of problems with validity and reliability.[10] Other branches of the U.S. government have questioned 360-degree feedback reviews as well.[11] Still, these organizations continue to use multi-rater feedback in their development processes."

-https://books.google.com/books?id=zcwCAAAAQBAJ&pg=RA1-PA2002&lpg=RA1-PA2002&dq=het+nederlands+%2B+360-degree+feedback&source=bl&ots=9FmQC2Pw36&sig=ACfU3U3V5TmAM1Es_az3MxBgDTEz-awYTQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjCjLfhrrvjAhWBGc0KHXEKAb8Q6AEwG3oECAcQAQ#v=onepage&q=het%20nederlands%20%2B%20360-degree%20feedback&f=false

Hope this greatly assists someone.....

PS: Also there is in fact a US Coast Guard facility in Mobile, AL that vets can utilize if have correct ratings and or retired. see perhaps:

Have an ID Card facility, and other things as well......

Interestingly, some local vets(?) have apparently, in past, noticed numerous Tribal Authority Law Enforcement vehicles vic the City of Fairhope AL City Hall and Police station.... could be picking up "tribal offenders"..but if so why, if reported accurately(?), why so many vehicles......?????? Would be highly interesting if in fact a Tribal Casino was/is(?) being discussed or in some sort "closed" Federal/State AL/Local litigation(?) unknown to the general public at large.....perhaps?????

There is just so much, about Baldwin County, Fairhope , Daphne and Alabam in general to discuss, it is amazing:

For instance and another tip on buying a home vic. Fairhope AL, is to apparently do so in one of the original, older sub-division vicinity Fairhope AL downtown as apparently the City does not impose the same restrictions on upkeep, ordinances as they do on the newer sub-divisions. I would attach pictures of these areas showing homes with unkept yards, shubbery, and even tarps on the roofs to keep rain out, but simply do not know if photo meta-data protected.....????? Anway those interested should really did out some old maps of Fairhope AL such as at: Map of old fairhope - Google Search: for example. (heck, along with a "goth" community apparently(?) have a "Druid Hill" in Fairhope AL...humph for number of Christian Churches and supposedly veterans...???)

Additionally, the City Council is discussing the census and odd because the last US Census cost taxpayers....."13-Billion USD" per 2010 United States Census - Wikipedia and if was inaccurate what a waste of US taxpayer money ....( once again see Search | City of Fairhope, AL) for those perhaps interested....???

I wonder if will count Foreign Nationals working AirBus and Austal, potentially residing vic Fairhope-Daphne AL, etc......in upcoming census.....???? (see if interested Austal: Corporate and Airbus Home , among many others, for example)

On the City of Fairhope AL, and its Airport Authority, Alabam has long history in aviation industry see for example: Wright Brothers Flying School | Encyclopedia of Alabama and Aviation in Alabama - Wikipedia among many other media articles and books on the topic...if interested???

On "360-Degree Feedback" wonder if the Roman, Greek, US Armies of WWI and WWII- which saved Europe- etc.., worked on same principle's of today's military's "360-Degree Feedback," etc...that seem to have been pretty effective in defeating some of the best trained armies in the world at that/those period(s) in time-history. For a good glimpse of both "insurgency warfare" and great glimpse of a well disciplined and led army- all be it over 200-years ago see perhaps "Masada (miniseries)" From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia at Best States for Disabled Veterans if interested....?????

Those into native American history, etc...might want to see the following for example, among many others-resources, in Alabama:

A great movie that discuses the impact of Native Americans on the US, and some of their "tragic fate" in general is "Last of the Dogmen" From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia at Last of the Dogmen - Wikipedia for example only......

Additionally the history of some other towns such as Foley Alabama- see for example, those interested: Foley, Alabama - Wikipedia

Thanks and hopefully this assist some veterans and their families contemplating a move to Alabama's Gulf Coast and Alabama in general.....?????

It would be remiss, if one did not let vet's whom like the outdoors but are considering relocating form, say, northern part's USA, etc.. to make them aware some outdoor natural hazards might want to be aware of? See below for example only some types of outdoor hazards to possible consider:

Additionally some another potential job opportunity: see for example only- Alabama Honda plant plans $94 million expansion

One may wonder why this is important? Sadly, those deployed to Iraq - i.e. MiTT Teams, SF Teams, and even basic US soldiers need to be aware of local flora and fauna, as it can significantly harm them, especially no quick access things like snake bite kits, anti-venom, and/or easily ground or air evacuated! See some historical and world examples from the past are below if interested, for example:

Per following web-article, at: Infantry Mission, Heraldry and Awards - Grunts and Co the Mission of the "US Infantry" is "The mission of the Infantry is to close with the enemy by means of fire and maneuver in order to destroy or capture him, or to repel his assault with fire, close combat, and counterattack.-FM 3-21.8 THE INFANTRY PLATOON AND SQUAD" thus exposing the US infantry man to numerous hazards on the ground- from not just the enemy alone- much like those civilians that like hiking and tent camping, etc.....

Furthermore, from web-article, at : https://www.cadetcommand.army.mil/res/files/forms_policies/handbooks/BC Handbook.pdf it states ( following in "quotes" cited-copied from) "Here are a few things to remember all the time:  DO NOT eat the wild berries, touch any insects, or attempt to grab any wildlife animals that you may encounter.  Eat all your meals and drink all the water and beverages provided to you. Food and fluids are needed to “fuel” your body’s regulatory systems for both heat and cold.  Make sure your uniform is clean, worn as instructed, and all buttons / fasteners are serviceable. Apply sunscreen and insect repellent to your face, neck, and hands as instructed.  Let your cadre know if you aren’t feeling well, taking medication, and/ or have unusual insect bite marks that look infected. Also let your cadre know if you think your buddy is not feeling well.  Watch the amount and color of your urine as an indicator of whether you are drinking enough water and fluids. This is just as important in cold weather as it is in hot weather.  If you purchase energy drinks, sports drinks, or supplements, during training, ensure that you continue eating all meals and drink all the water and beverages provided to you."

I do not know how many those deploying to "vacation spots" around the world currently receive briefings/ education- preferably hands on- on this before deployment, but can say only rarely in training for deployment was this ever covered and not even in MiTT Training way back during "surge" period of OIF....???? One would think the US Military would improve as it went along in regards to things such as this...?????

Anyway, hope this helps explain why one should do some research into local flora and fauna hazards, among a few before deciding if want relocate any particular area....?????

Thanks, and hope this assists at least one veteran and their family considering a relocation vic. Gulf Coast States......???????

PS: May be interested in the following as an aside on various other issues as well:, brought to my attention "USMA Bugle Notes" :

Of interest- talking some MiTT Teams, apparently some MiTT Team members in a post in Iraq had to inform the Chain of Command of a US Army Unit that soldiers on guard duty were letting a an "asp" looking snake (see for example only: Asp (reptile) - Wikipedia ) go back and forth right by them and they nor their NCO's-PLT-CO CDR said anything about it.....?????? Interesting if true as see Bored U.S. Soldiers Hunt Snakes in Afghanistan so if soldier gets bit and briefed on hazard, and chain of command allows such activity, whom is to blame a soldier loses a limb or digit, or worse from a snakebite whilst participating this type activity- especially bitten and cannot be evacuated rapidly and local medics, etc.. possibly not right equipment or training to treat???????

The latest issue VFW Magazine- AUG 2019- has some travel advice for those "50 And Older" on page 48 of hard copy edition that some may find useful, if planning to relocate, for example the Gulf Coast region or anywhere else for that matter! However, could;d not find it posted at VFW Magazine nor VFW, Veterans of Foreign Wars magazine for example only, among others on internet????

Additionally, those whom have served know the importance of prior to deployment, anywhere, a "Site Survey" by and "advance Party" and one would simply think the same principles apply those considering relocation US or Abroad..see for example: Site survey - Wikipedia as well as https://www.acq.osd.mil/dpap/ccap/cc/jcchb/Site Survey Checklist.pdf and the following cited from this web-link in "quotes" : "Survey local customs, laws, taxes, and shortages within the local economy, local bureaucratic impediments, language difficulties, currency exchange rate fluctuations, and security concerns. If local sales tax exemption procedures or numbers are available, obtain them through embassy personnel." fo5r those interested as well as many more articles types site survey on internet!

There was also an interesting article on "A Cold War Against The Communists" by Earl Rickard in the AUG Issue of VFW Magazine on pages 34-36 about US service members whom served in Russia "Archangel", etc... and US Service Member bodies left behind...but could not find on internet....? However, did find following opportunity those wishing to try their luck at "writing" at web-address: Essay Contests

Well I hope this assists some veterans out there or give pause to do some rigorous "study" prior to considering any permanent relocation.....

PS: Back to AUG 2019, etc... Issue VFW Magazine- might find the below weblinks interestibg:

On page 6- AUG VFW Magazine one can enter to "Win A Free Trip Through VFWS 'Return to Vietnam' Drawing".........but might want see article page-50 on "Vietnam Vets at Highest risk for Hepatitis C"...sadly.....

As well as the link between current US Army/USMC TNG from ancient sources- see below if interested:

Once again best wishes those contemplating a permanent relocation USA or elsewhere...... and may want to factor in as well: Sister city - Wikipedia

(Still issues this web-site...)
