hi my name is chris i enlisted in the navy in august of 2007, i was diagnosed with crohn's disease in early october. I was discharged as of june. I have visited the three best nurology (mind the spelling) specialists in nebraska and everyone of them said it was the most minor case theyve ever seen and they've never seen anything like it. I've got a mountain of letters saying im fit from football coaches, teachers, friends, because i was a very active person in sports and my community, that was sent to 00M and they still denied it. No military doctor has seen me since is was in MEPS. I am very physically fit and working 10 hours of construction a day. Is there anything i can do?

I have seen some succesful cases at the Board for Correction of Military Records. You may want to consider that route.

BTW, were you sent to an MEB or PEB?

Best of luck and please let us know any questions.

They didnt evaluate me at all, they just assume i was unfit, which I'm not, and I got a letter saying i was discharged. Would it be possible to request another physical? I would be very confident if they would see me in person.

btw my physical at MEPS was approved before they found out i had crohn's disease

Were you on a delayed entry program or anything like that? If you were on orders for more than 30 Days (meaning the orders were that long, it could have been the first day of those orders) you should have been entitled to an MEB and PEB.

That issue aside, if you have an RE code keeping you from re-enlisting, you can try a BCMR petition.

Unfortunatey, Crohn's disease is unfitting for enlistment, no matter how minor. Based on the medical evidence the Navy BU-MED department gets on certain illnesses or diseases, they determine what is, and is not qualifying for enlistment.

After you Depped in how did they find out?

You will not be entitled to MEB or PEB as Navy DEP is inactive Naval reserve, and no days of DEP are counted as drilling. No pay, no benfits, no requirement from DEP.

There are many illnesses and diseases that are automatically disqualifying, regardless of what the civilian doctors tell you. They look at your future potential for medical issues or problems that are lilely to occur.

Sorry

Did he say he was on DEP? That is what I am unsure of, his status when discharged. If he was on orders, he would be eligible for MEB/PEB. They may find it to be EPTS, but that is a different question.

i no since i was only in DEP i dont get any benefits but thats not what I am focused on. I found out i had crohns because my family took a vacation to mexico and I used the water to brush my teeth. I was going through two-a-days when i realized it was harder than usual and my schools athletic trainer thought i should be tested for west nile. I tested positive. I found out ive had it for over a year. So the water in mexico flared up my west nile which then flared up my crohns and thats how i found out i had it.
