The following is conjecture with several missing elements.

Re: “my 1st CRSC statement on DFAS 1MAY2019 is $267.13”

Inference: 267.13 + 376 is a certain percentage of 4904, high three base pay average

1. 643.13/4904 = 13.11%
2. 13.11/2.5 = 5.24 years active duty
3. 5.24 AD x 0.025 = 13.1 multiplier
4. 4904 x 0.131 = 642.42 longevity portion of retirement pay
5. 642.42 minus 376 residual retired pay = 266.42 CRSC
6. DFAS would pay 266.42 CRSC (within $1 of DFAS figure) plus 376 residual retired pay = 642.42 TOTAL

Earlier computation using 14.75 as AD.

A. 3433/0.70 = ~4904 high three
B. 3433 gross retired pay minus 3057 VA compensation = 376 residual retired pay
C. 14.75 AD years x 0.25 = 36.88% multiplier
D. 4904 x 0.3688 = ~1809 dollar amount of longevity portion of retirement pay
E. CRSC @ 90% = ~1833
F. 1809 is the ceiling for your CRSC
G. 1809 minus 376 residual retired pay amount = 1433 CRSC payable
H. Amount received from DFAS each month: 1433 + 376 = 1809

Ron
Thanks Ron. That makes a lot more sense, now that I understand how years of service is calculated based on reservist’s retirement points. I’m I correct to infer that an increase in CRSC % will not result in an any additional award since CRSC at 90% could pay up to ~1833 but in my case is limited to ~642 based on the longevity retirement portion?

Good afternoon, all: Can someone help me calculating my CRSC entitlement?

  1. High three average $2815
  2. Precise number of active duty or active duty equivalent years and months. 7 Years and 4 months
  3. DoD Disability percentage Example: 20% DoD
  4. VA percentage; the amount; and number of dependents by category 100%; $3437.10; spouse and 2 children under 18
  5. Approved CRSC 80%
  6. Indicate if any of the following apply: have 20 good years for reserve retirement OR received REDUX Example: have 20 good years for reserve retirement.- NONE

Hello,

A 30% DoD disability (or more) rating is a requirement for disability retired pay. You show 20%.

Please reply with your correct disability rating upon your retirement from the military.

Ron

You understand perfectly...

COLA will be the only increases.

80% DOD and 100% VA. I get paid the 100% from VA

A. 2815 x 0.75 = 2111.25 disability retired pay...all waived due to receipt of VA comp more than that amount
B. 7.333 yrs AD x 0.025 = 18.33% multiplier
C. 2815 x 0.1833 = 515.99 dollar amount of longevity portion of retirement pay
D. 515.99 will be your CRSC since it is the lesser when compared to CRSC @ 80%. CRSC can never be more than the longevity portion of retirement pay

CRSC= 515.99

Ron, can you help me out with calculating my CRSC estimate?

All of the following is needed for an estimate:
  1. High three average: $4298
  2. Precise number of active duty or active duty equivalent years and months. Example: 8 years and 7 months
  3. DoD Disability percentage Example: 70% DoD
  4. VA percentage; the amount; and number of dependents by category 100%; $3352; spouse and 1 child under 18
  5. Approved CRSC 80%
  6. Indicate if any of the following apply: have 20 good years for reserve retirement OR received REDUX Example: have 20 good years for reserve retirement.- NONE

Hello,

Yes...are your answers in the reply? I see the word “example” in at least one area.

DJsPops,

If those are your numbers, your CRSC is 921.92

4298 x .70 = 3008.60 retired pay reduced by 3352 VA compensation
8.58 years AD x 0.025 = 21.45% multiplier
4298 x 0.2145 = 921.92 longevity portion of retirement pay
CRSC @ 80% is higher, but your ceiling is 921.92

Thank you Ron. Yes, those are my numbers. I used your template from one of your earlier post and just didn't remove "example".

You provided excellent info...I just wanted to be sure.

Take care,

Thank you! I’m attaching my approval letter. It looks like I will get 6 years back pay since I got out in May 2013. Most is rated at 90% and the rest at 80%. How much is 90%?

It makes no difference in your case (and most CH 61 cases I have seen).

$515.99 will be your CRSC since it is the lesser when compared to CRSC @ 80% and 90%. CRSC can never be more than the dollar amount of the longevity portion of retirement pay which is 515.99 based on an earlier computation.

Sorry it will not be higher.

Ok thank you ....I’ll base back pay on 515.99.

That will give you a rough estimate. You will receive COLA increases as they are approved. Conversely, the prior
years (retroactive) will have a lower rate than 515.99 because the rate would have less COLA applied.

  1. DFAS RAS 2025
  2. 21 years and 6 months
  3. DoD Disability percentage Example: 60% DoD
  4. 90% 2098.62 spouse one child under 18
  5. 70% expected CRSC
  6. REDUX have 21.5 good years for retirement.

Topsride,

RE: Items 2 and 6

Are both active duty? “Good Years” is a term normally used for reserve time,

I’ll provide a computation in about an hour or so.

Ron

I guess I misunderstood,

Line 6 Redux

Not sure about DoD disability percentage either....?

The terms and formulas are confusing.

So...just for clarification, you have a REDUX retirement and do not have a CH 61 retirement? Chapter 61 retirements are the result of going before a board to determine the level of disability related to being physically unfit to continue on AD.

We do REDUX and regular retirement-related CRSC too.
