Hello,

Case.

$2700.01 gross retired
-Active duty years and months OR active duty equivalent years for those with reserve time (total points divided by 360)
22 years 3 months
—VA compensation percentage; amount; and dependents (category, number, and ages of children)
$3,221.85 1 dependent age 8
—Approved CRSC percentage
90%

Estimate.

1. 22.25 AD years x 0.025 = 55.625% longevity multiplier
2. 2700.01/0.55625 = 4853.95 high three
3. Your pay from DFAS with CRDP = 2700.01 (see page 2 of DFAS RAS)

4. CRSC.
2700.01 minus 3221.85 = zero residual retired pay. CRSC @ 90%, with one child under 18 = $1,966.96

Summary.

You will lose money by taking CRSC, although there is a tax benefit.

CRDP = 2700.01
CRSC = 1966.96
You also receive your VA comp in both scenarios.

You are welcome.

I had a similar situation a few years ago. I took the lesser CRSC (which was 90%) because I was working full time and the tax break on my DFAS funds more than made up for the loss of some of the pay.

Excellent.

Nice that you have that option.
