CRSC question

I have tried to find the dfas disability calculator, but it seems it is not working or shut down. If someone that knows the calculation could help me out I would appreciate it. I was already receiving CRSC for $448 a month, but my combat related injuries jumped from 70% to 100%. It took a year for the Army CRSC board to accept at and move it to 100%. Now I spoke with a DFAS person last week and they said it would stay at $448. I guess I dont understand?????

High 3: $3,196.50
YOS: 8 years 11 months
DOD: 100%
VA 100% $3650
CRSC 100%

I will offer a computation in a few minutes, but from what you have stated, I suspect you are being paid the dollar amount of the longevity portion of your retired pay.

CRSC as a Chapter 61 retiree will be the lesser of
--the dollar amount of the longevity portion of your retirement
or
--
the CRSC rate/percentage approved by your service.

The value of the rate approved by your service (upon application) will be found in the VA compensation tables (e.g., if 50% and no dependents, you would search for "50%, veteran alone." That amount is $855.41. Just an example.)

Case.

High 3: $3,196.50
YOS: 8 years 11 months---is this AD time or its equivalent?
DOD: 100%
VA 100% $3650
CRSC 100%

Estimate.

1. YOS 8.916 x 0.025 = 22.29%
2. H-3 3196.50 x 0.2229 = 712.50
3. H-3 3196.50 x 0.75 DoD = 2397 (all waived...no residual ret pay)
4. 100% CRSC = 3650 (cannot exceed 712.50)

Based on your figures, I get $712.50

You can obtain a copy of your audit by sending a signed request to:
Defense Finance and Accounting Service

Fax: 800-469-6559

Recommend FAX.

Added note: This suggests that an error exists in the data you provided. " I was already receiving CRSC for $448 a month, but my combat related injuries jumped from 70% to 100%." The amount being paid is NOT the CRSC rate for 70% that mirrors that rate in the VA comp tables. Consequently, the $448 is likely the dollar amount of the longevity portion of retired pay.

DD214 says 8 years 11 months total, but in reality 2 years and a few months were national guard. Am starting to think that's what it is. There not using the 8 years and 11 months as total active there using a smaller years of service. Anyways thanks

It is my understanding that the NG time would be total points divided by 360.

I would be interested in what your retirement orders state. Do you have that info available?
Particularly, months and years for disability plus any other pay-related info.

Section 1405: 6 years, 2 months 29 days

Note: only pay is crsc currently $448 plus VA pay $3627.58

1. YOS 6.166 x 0.025 = 15.42%
2. H-3 3196.50 x 0.1542 = 492.90
3. H-3 3196.50 x 0.75 DoD = 2397 (all waived...no residual ret pay)
4. 100% CRSC = 3650 (cannot exceed 492.90)

This is closer. Perhaps you are having SBP deducted? My computation using your figures, is the gross CRSC. In any case, the reason your CRSC is not going to increase even though your rate went to 100% has been discovered (i.e., you are receiving the dollar amount of the longevity portion of the retired pay)

The high 3 is probably a little lower. I was looking at info that was wrong the whole time. I hope anybody else who reads this always get the YOS from the retirement orders. Anyways thanks Ron.
