This is my case:
1) DOD 100% with 75% base pay
2) VA 100% $3,352.00 married with 1 child under the age of 18
3) High three average base pay =$3,639.90
3) 6.13 Years Active Duty
4) I don't qualify for any other military retirement.
I am trying to find out if I should apply for CSRC.
Thank you for all your help.
Bert.

Hi Bert,

Estimate.

1. (3639.90 x 0.75) = 2729.93 retired pay
2. (2729.93 - 3352.00) = zero residual retired pay, (i.e., all the retired pay is offset by the amount of VA comp).
3. (6.13 x 0.025) = 15.33% longevity multiplier
4. (3639.90 x 0.1533) = 558 dollar amount of the longevity portion of retired pay.

Based on the info you provided, your CRSC will be at most, 558. CRSC cannot exceed the longevity portion of retired pay.

Ron

Edited to add:
For CH 61 retirees with less than 20 years AD, CRSC is the lesser of
--longevity portion of retirement amount
or
--The approved CRSC % approved by the service, using the amounts in the VA compensation tables.

Glad to assist...

Good luck,
Ron

1. What is your high three for retirement
OR
the gross pay on your most recent DFAS RAS?
Please indicate which you are providing.

2. What is the VA compensation amount
and number of dependents by category? Need ages of children as well.

3. Are you a disability retiree? If so what is your DoD percentage?

4. If you are not a disability retiree, what type retirement do you have?

5. How many active duty or active duty equivalent years do you have?

6. This amount of CRSC, DOD is paying me $242.00, suggests to me that you have either a large amount of residual retirement pay
OR
the number of your active duty equiavlent years is relatively low.

Jamessimmons,

Re: "DOD is paying me $242.00 is something wrong with the picture "

1. It is not uncommon to see that low an amount of CRSC for a CH 61 disability retiree (the type retirement you had is unknown to me at the time of this post).

2. Many disability retirees receive the dollar amount of their longevity portion of retired pay as CRSC. In fact, the longevity amount is the ceiling for CRSC, and the CRSC could be less due to:
--residual retired pay
--An approved CRSC percentage that equates to more than than the longevity amount.

3. Using a randomly selected high three of $5000, the following example shows how your CRSC could be $242:

(242/5000) = 4.84% (proof feature 5000 x 0.0484 = $242)
Since the longevity multiplier is (active duty years x 0.025) = longevity multiplier
4.84% is slightly less than 5% which would have been the multiplier for two (2) years.
This seems unlikely for 27 years (which has not been identified as being active duty)

4. A more likely scenario is that your have a significant amount of residual retired pay left over from the VA offset. Residual retired pay
reduces the CRSC amount in many cases since CRSC + residual retired pay cannot exceed the dollar amount of the longevity portion of retired pay.

5. Once I see your reply, I will be able to give you a more precise answer.

Ron
