Attached is a required report from the 2008 NDAA on the Continued Utility of the Temporary Disability Retired List (TDRL). Not to give away a surprise ending, but the report recommends retention of the TDRL. There is some discussion of shortening the period from 5 years to 3 years, with an option for the Service Secretary to extend.

It contains some interesting discussion of the history, but what will probably grab the most attention is the charts on outcomes of the TDRL.

87% go from TDRL to PDRL, while 0.7% are ever returned to duty. I wonder that percentages they were looking for to recommend getting rid of TDRL instead of potentially shortening it to 3 years.
