Does anybody know what to do in my situation?
I was in reserve unit, deployed in late 2000's. Medivaced out of Iraq due to suicidal ideation and stress.
Released from active duty back to reserve unit stating that I should receive medical eval within next few months. Unit waited a few years to do evaluation on me, gave me a LOD for anxiety/depression, referred me for medical evaluation. Medical evaluation under "summary of defects and diagnoses" states Depression/Anxiety and PTSD. Box 74a also states Is not qualified for service, and examer wrote in Not fit for duty.
Well by the time I was given the exam I was due to transfer to the IRR, so I basically let it happen because it was stressful enough being around the unit during drills and I wanted to close the door on everything and try to forget this part of my life.
I have now realized that this is not possible because I am still having issues.
I have never been rated with the VA, I attempted once or twice but did not have all the necessary documentation and actually cancelled my second attempt at getting a rating for various reasons (i.e. forgetting the past and starting new future, feelings of worthlessness, etc.).
Now that I am having issues I am looking through all of my old paperwork and medical records and I am wondering if I should have been given a different exit out of the Army Reserve/IRR vs just fading into the sunset and letting my time expire since I am having these issues.
Unsure of what should I do?
Thank you.
