Does this mean.....

Quick question. I have a condition that I think I'll end up being MEBd for but from what I read I'll probably only get 20% at best. If I am at 20 yrs will that automatically give me 50%, even though my referred condition may be less than the 30% needed for medical retirement? In other words, does it matter if I dont make it to the 30% with my condition as long as I'm at 20 yrs?

At 20 years you are retirement eligible, even if found less than 30% unfitting.

At 20 years you are retirement eligible, even if found less than 30% unfitting.
In addition to that accurate information, even if you were found to be 30% or 40% unfitting, you still qualify for the 50% you earned for 20 years AD (instead of the lower rating).

Per DFAS:
If your disability is found to be permanent and is rated at 30 percent or greater, or you have 20 or more years of service, you will be placed on the Permanent Disability Retired List (PDRL).

Your retired pay will be computed using one of two methods.
  • Your disability percentage, referred to as Method A.
  • Your years of active service, referred to as Method B.
Your pay will be computed based on whichever method is more beneficial for you.
