This forum has been a good source of information for me. I thought I would share my timeline so far, I am facing a medical board for mental health with 18.5 years in and trying to make it to my 20 through either RTD or LAS. My servicer for coordinating these appointments is VES.

January 2023: Continued mental health care after PCS
October 2023: IOP/PHP
October 2023: Hospitalization
December 2023: Hospitalization
January 2024: Referred to AMRO board
April 2024: Code 37 notification, medical board
April 2024: Meet with PEBLO
April 2024: Phone call with VA MSC
April 2024: Completed VA paperwork and send to PEBLO and MSC
June 2024: Completed mental health C&P exam
June 2024: Completed head to toe C&P exam
June 2024: Completed audiology C&P exam
June 2024: Completed diagnostic C&P appointments
July 2024: TBI and migraine C&P exam still pending date
July 2024: Received audiology and head to toe DBQs in TOL

Trying to get past the new year and apply for LAS at over 19 years. I have not appealed anything yet and the ODC said there is nothing they can assist with at this point.

You could definitely stretch out your timeline with c&p exams. With my exam provider I was allowed a certain amount of reschedules. Maybe wait a few days before the exams for TBI and migraine and reschedule them? Just an idea!

Appeal everything regardless, respond on the last day of suspense, apply for skillbridge, 20 day PTDY. Concurrent receipt is sweet if you can make it to 20.

Thanks. I'm looking to doing everything I can. I requested an updated CIS today because I have a new Commander. My last Commander did not want to do anything for me or support me.

I spoke with my PEBLO office today and was told that once referred for a full MEB, there is basically zero chance of RTD. I said, that is not what the paperwork the office provided me showed, but the PEBLO said only twice in her entire career she saw RTD after full medical board.

PEBLO office said, I can provide new CIS from my new commander, but it does not seem that it would make any difference.

PEBLO office said, LAS is an option and it would not make any difference if I was just before or after my 19 year mark, she didn't make this sound very reassuring.

I'm just over 18.5 and I want to make it to 20, that's about my only goal right now.

Thoughts from anyone, please?

A much lower chance to RTD, sure, but AFPC makes the call and you can appeal it. The CIS makes a big difference in retaining someone or not, whether you want to stay in or not

My MH C&P exam was completed on 13 May, its been over 3 months now and VES still has not completed and submitted the DBQ. I called today and was told that it was still in quality review and they were working on it as recent as last week.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

Can anyone provide insight on what this evaluation means? Also, this phone doctor did not seem to believe what I was saying, she made a note saying that I exaggerated symptoms. I am feeling so defeated by the medical psych system. I feel like if I say anything other than "I'm good, I'm fine" they call me a liar. Thoughts?

So each of those symptoms in that list fall into a criteria whether it be 0, 10, 30, 50, 70 or 100%. I found it useful to gather all notes and symptoms (WITHOUT PII) and ask ChatGPT to refer to the "VA 38 CFR Book C" rating guidelines and see where that DBQ would fall. In no sense can I guarantee the rating it shows is 100% accurate but it can help break it down and give you an idea!

I'm still hoping to push this pass December so I am over 19 years and apply for LAS or maybe getting a RTD from Med Board.

2 Oct 2024: Local MEB package stated unfit refer to PEB

*Local MEB package was routed with wrong and outdated commander impact statement, no treatment notes past April 2024, and without my personal statement.

3 Oct 2024: Met with PEBLO, elected to do an IMR, include personal statement, and asked for package to be rerouted since he included the wrong CIS from a previous CC
9 Oct 2024: Submitted Commander recommendation letter for RTD, personal statement, and IMR election memo

*PEBLO has been trying to get me to just sign-off on paperwork to fast-track this process and overlook my rights, and not compile my package correctly. Be careful out there guys...

06 Jan 2025: Received MyFSS email:

"The Physical Evaluation Board Liaison Officer (PEBLO) at your base Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) sent your Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) package to the Air Force Personnel Center Physical Disability Operations Branch. The Physical Disability Operations team is reviewing your package to ensure the documentation is current and complete. Incomplete MEB packages are returned to your base PEBLO for correction as it is vital the information is accurate and current in order for the Informal Physical Evaluation Board (IPEB) to make a determination. Once it is verified your package is complete, Physical Disability Operations will transfer your completed package into a Disability Evaluation System (DES) case file for review by the IPEB."

I am finally over 19 years TIS. I want to SkillBridge and retire this year, not lose my retirement pay at the very end here. I think I will have the option to appeal the IPEB finding, request a VARR, and appeal to SECAF, then apply for LAS. I am trying to exhaust all my options and not get forced retirement before my 20 years. Anyone have information on the LAS option for over 19 years TIS? I'm hoping it is an obvious approval.

19 Feb 2025: Claim closed on VA website & app

What's the most efficient way to have my rating emailed to me like some of you all have done?

Got my second FSS email this morning. I called the VA x1000 option 3 and had them email my proposed rating letters. I was proposed rated at 100% but I do not know what my DoD rating is specifically.

I am also waiting on my DoD rating. My proposed claim was completed 7 Feb. What's the hold up AFPC -__-

Spoke with PEBLO, received rating breakdown and paperwork. I'm 50% TDRL and 100% VA. I contacted the ODC this morning and will seeing the best path to get approved for LAS because I only need to the end of the year to make it to 20 and retire. I also have a pending retirement application submitted through MYFSS as of this morning.

You’re a shoe-in for LAS. I know cause I’m literally there with you. I applied in 2023 and was approved and you def will with you already being at 19. The only thing you need is a supportive commander and the desire to stay in. I’m in the LAS program right now and have been approved to retire (ETS Aug 2026)
