I was going through a REFRAD originally, but then withdrew it because I would rather go through a MEB, but my CDRs statement had the box checked that I had separation orders (because at the time it was being filled out that was actually the case). So once everything was finalized and I had signed my 199, my cdrs statement ended up going through special actions for review because of all of this. So finally we just filled a new one out that said I wasn't on separation orders and it seems like they took that and went with it.

Ok that sound about right. I as a question about terminal leave and the medboard process? Who do you talk to for terminal leave is it the S1 or transition? What is that process like for terminal leave?

So you talk to transitions about your leave, because they are the ones who can adjust your final out date to be sooner than the 90 day limit that you have. However, your leave is still processed as normal with your s-1.

Ok thanks so how will that process look? Can I start the process now or do I have to wait to talk to transition? My S-1 basically was saying I can’t wait until the last minute because the unit not going to wait and kick me out so I would have to just sell it back

You submit a leave form for the number of days you have + number of days you'll earn while on leave. If less than 90, request pTDY for up to 20 more days (no guarantee). These are requested through your normal S1. The just like Leave en-route, you proviude the approved leave form to transition/orders cutters, and they use that to determine your date as A_Cio mentioned.

If you wait till last minute you wont have the DA 31 to submit so transition will set your out date you'll lose or have to sell your leave.

Ok thanks. So you would submit your leave form once you get your NLT 90 date to your chain of command and then you would give that to transition so they can cut you your orders? I just don’t want to lose my leave by messing up in a step. My Peblo said when I go to transition they will calculate it into my last date so I didn’t know what the exact process was

No, or at least not how i read your reply. You need to do your leave form with your S1/HR section now. Then provide it to whoever on your post will process your orders, because they will set your retirement date based off the forms you submit.

It's an UP TO 90 days, not a guaranteed 90 days. If you don't have the leave and or pTDY, you wont get those days. If you have 0 leave and 0 pTDY (because you didn't request, or just don't have) you'll get between 5-10 days only to out-process and be fully out of service. If you have 30 days leave, you'll be give a few days to out-process and such, 30 days and that will set your retirement date.

Just to be clear I'll try a different way to explain. You sign 199. Army processes it, sends it to bureaucratic ether. One day you'll get orders. The number of days between the day you get your orders and the day you are dropped form Army Rolls and become a Veteran in the yes of the VA. Is not to exceed 90 days. The final date is based on the amount of pTDY and leave you request. If you don't request it, you don't get it. So who ever is processing your orders back in the bureaucratic ether, needs your DA-31 to know how many days to set on your orders when they cut them.

Think of it like taking leave in route and your loosing S1 making the DA 31 for the post PSB to determine your reporting date that is far enough out to allow your requested leave. Only this time you are reporting to Veteran-hood. No leave form to orders generator, no leave days, short report window.

Sorry if I beat a dead horse, but at least it makes glue and glue makes things stick.

I greatly appreciate it. So I have ten days of leave now. I’ve been found unfit and waiting for VA to attached ratings. So you saying I can go to my S1 and do a DA 31 form now? How do I estimate how many leave days I will have if I don’t know the exact day I will leave yet? I think that’s what I’m confused on. Thank you so much for your help and patience!

My Peblo was just saying when my packet comes back if I agree the next step she will get me to transition and they will calculate my leave to use as terminal but she not saying anything about a DA 31

You'll do that stuff with transition. They'll help you figure out the days and pTDY (if your going to request it). But from what it sounded like in your post a while up there, your Unit is telling you to get it done sooner because they don't want to have to jump through at last minute (if transition only gives you a few days i'm guessing).

Yes I think so. So should I wait for my ratings to go back and then go to transition or should I get my S1 to do a DA 31 now? If I do the DA 31 now with my S1 what dates would I use? I’m sorry for all the questions

I'd ask your S1. Mine said it's no big deal to wait till I have my 199 and do it then. But if yours is saying they don't want you to wait, then they need to give you some guidance. My thoughts. A leave form with set dates (so write in later) seams easiest, but not everyone goes for that.

True appreciate it. I’m going to send him a email and just do it off June 1st I guess

I signed my 199 last week (6 May). Just waiting to pop up on the TRANSPROC. People are saying that I need to submit my DA 31 right now, but how would that work? I don't know when I'll start and finish clearing since, so how would I put a date on my leave form to request PDTY/terminal leave?

Thats the tough part. You can start putting together your leave form and whatever you might need with it. Talk with your command and whoever is signing your leave form to figure it all out. Obviously you would not be able to have an idea when your out day is, but you can start thinking about it. You definitely want to think about when you would start because that will make everything when you meet with transitions much easier.

COVID19 screwed the process up now SM’s are being rushed out, without all the key information they need, if you have a good S1 the process will be smooth but, most people are tele-working and current staff are winging your checklist and passing off poor or limited info that you’re going to need like TRICARE,VA and so fourth do your research. You have ten days to out process and 10 PDTY( if you’re active ) then it’s leave burning time. You will have to return for your new retirement ID card and DD214

I'm tracking 20 days pTDY.

Also if you're moving and there is no military base in your state who do you get your ID card?

I was tracking that you get your DD214 at your final out, not on last day when you return to get ID card (especially since VA sends you a letter saying turn in your DD214 on terminal leave so they can start your pay on time.)

When requesting permissive tdy and transition leave do you use one DA 31 or two?
What type of leave do you put it as permissive tdy or other?

I have to submit mine tomorrow and I want to make sure I do it right!

i had to use 2 forms, 1 for pTDY, and 1 for leave. Partly because new fillable PDF auto calculates your days for you, and you can't over ride the calculation, so if you do it as a single form the form tries to say your pTDY is chargeable.

The fillable PDF had a block to check for pTDY under leave type.

Yea that’s the problem I’m having. I’m going to leave the dates blank and send it up like my S1 said. How did you do your terminal leave? What’s box did you check?
