General PEB questions

Hello all, I'm active-duty Air Force with 3 years down and 10 months left on my current contract. I was deployed to a combat zone and was trapped inside an aircraft that caught on fire and due to extreme smoke inhalation, I have been diagnosed with Asthma, sleep apnea and PTSD. (still being tested for COPD and bronchitis

I have recently received word that my MEB determined me unfit and now I will be determined by the IPEB for my asthma and sleep apnea (off base therapist just submitted official ptsd diag to my on base therapist) and I was wondering what I can expect in the coming time. I understand the general timeline due to a helpful flight chief and this forum however I am more concerned with what happens after the military for me. I have accepted I will very likely be separated and plan on going to college. I do worry about my financial situation though. When I receive my % from the DOD and VA what should I do to determine how much I will be receiving? Am I eligible for CRSC or CRDP ? I have a civilian wife and currently own a home; I have begun saving up in the event I will make less than I currently do ($4074 monthly) while potentially fighting for a higher rating. Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated thank you very much.

You will have 2 goals. Highest VA ratings and having our unfit conditions equal 30% or higher. You will know a lot more when you receive your proposed VA ratings. They aren't official until you get out. By law you can't get more than the combination of your VA% total and earned longevity pension earned. Since you haven't been in very long your VA compensation will be all of your pay. By law any VA income will offset a medical retirement. So shooting for 100% VA is the goal. It will allow you to receive about 4k a month tax free. After you get out you can apply for CRSC and if approved you will get an additional check. However, it won't be for very much as you are capped at your longevity pension. So if you are in 4 years and have a blended retirement you have 8% earned. Your high 3 will be less than this but to round out the numbers 8% of 4k is $320 a month. So if approved for CRSC the max you could receive would be a few hundred dollars. CRDP is only for those who retired with 20 years or those rare Soldiers that retire at 15 years through TERA.

So for you to max out compensation you want 100% VA rating & 30% or higher DOD% so that you get Tricare and because you must retire to be eligible to apply for and receive CRSC. If you medically retire you can apply for CRSC once you receive your VA award letter and you MAY get up to an extra $200 -$300 per month.
