My biggest fear is that someone won't do the paperwork right and I don't get TERA. Looks like I'm doing the same thing you are though so I feel better.

Just for info.

So what exactly is the benefit of TERA over the medical retirement. It prolongs an already ridiculously long process so I want to be sure it’s worth it as I’m going to be at that stage in a few weeks. Thanks.

TERA.

In addition to authorizing a retirement at 15 or more years...it qualifies an individual for CRDP if they have a VA rating of 50% or more.

CRDP allows concurrent receipt. See DFAS CRDP info LINK <---

TERA retired pay is generally calculated using the same formula that is used for 20-or-more-year retirements, but it includes an early retirement reduction factor. The calculation is 2.5 percent of the average of the highest 36 months of base pay times the number of years of service, times the TERA reduction factor. Reduction factors are based upon the number of months that retirement is taken before the 20-year minimum (1/12 th of 1% for each month of early retirement).

CRDP is one big reason. The other reason, for my case, is I will be at better retirement percentage under TERA than medical.

Makes sense. I have heard as well that TERA will put you on the permanent retired list right off the bat vice being on the temporary for a while before transitioning to permanent. Do you know if this is true? How long have they told you that your TERA will take to be approved?

No I have not heard about going directly to the permanent retired list before, but it makes sense for a PEB waiver case.

They said it takes approximately 30 days for approval of the TERA.

What was the average time for your EAS to post on MOL? I signed my findings on December 27th, and I still don’t have a new EAS. I called the number and they said they have not received my index. My peblo is no help either.

Mine posted in about 2 weeks, but I talked to MMSR this past week, they are having some system issues. That might be why yours hasn't posted yet.

I called mmsr and they said that it’s “awaiting PEB action” ... my peblo is just telling me to wait it out

I submitted my TERA request but my I-I is unwilling to sign it unless I have HQMC push my EAS date back 3-4 months.

Wow, they are aware that if they don't sign it you are getting out anyway. You PEB discharge/ retirement isn't going to be 3-4 months out. It is just screwing you in the long run. Is your CO the one not willing to endorse it?

He wants me to stay until a replacement arrives (May-June) but I have a job lined up and don't want to. There was also a discussion to deny my PTAD for retirement request in order to keep me on longer. His plan right now is to write an endorsement that says he recommends me extending to July 31st (vice April 30th).
