I've been diagnosed with the sleep disorder Idiopathic Hypersomnia about 10 months ago. Since then I've been on multiple temporary profiles. I've requested a WTU packet be started on me, but was told that only SM that will recover from their medical conditions are sent to WTUs. Instead, my PCM has started a MEB. The issue I am facing is that the P3 profile (which is now permanent) was written for the condition of Sleep Apnea. I was told by my PCM that the profile was written off a template, and that it was the responsibility of my MEB doctor's to make the profile fit my condition. After months of going back and forth, I have only succeeded my PCM to change the illness at the top of my DA Form 3349. The functional limitation are rewritten for sleep apnea, and the functional activity is written based on my previous permanent profile (for plantar fasciitis) instead of being similar to my temporary profiles for hypersomnia. Can anyone tell me who is responsible for correcting this issue?

Also, my PCM have done nothing to put in place any duty limitations (other than do no drive if sleepy) or put into effect any recommendations of the civilian specialist that I was referred to.

Not sure which branch your in. Profile procedures vary by branch.

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

From my experiences within the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process via an U.S. Army perspective, only the MEB profiling approval authority (e.g., MEB profiling officer) can revise the military permanent profile of an IDES participant.

In retrospect, my idiot MEB profiling officer telephonically called my civilian PCM and told her to "immediately" stop generating updated military permanent profiles since she doesn't have the authority to change a military permanent profile of a soldier once referred and accepted into the DoD IDES process!

Instead, the idiot MEB profiling officer said it was okay to generate unlimited military temporary profiles to identify current changes in the IDES soldier's medical status albeit after the telephonic "beat down" which my civilian PCM received from her, my civilian PCM would not even generate anymore temporary profiles at that point!

Nonetheless, you will need to fight the issue with the MEB profiling authority to have your IDES-generated permanent profile changed/revised and to include any specific duty limitations at this point while never default acceptance to any injustices when in the DoD IDES process; at least from my previous experiences for sure. Take care!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

Thanks for the responses. I forgot to mention that I was AD Army.

Last week I called patient advocate and they managed to get my PCM to call my PEBLO and had the profile condition changed to Hypersomnia, but the rest of the profile still is written for sleep apnea. It actually refers to sleep apnea and having a CPAP. I'm guessing the issue is Hypersomnia (or Narcolepsy w/o cataplexy) isn't a condition outlined in AR 40-501, so my PCM put the most similar condition in the larger headings.

I called my Ombudsman today. I was told that the approving authority on my profile was supposed to look through my medical records to make sure the profile made sense. I hope this resolves this issue before I have to take a PT test as I can barely function that early in the morning.

You are welcome! :)

Good deal; I applaud your continuing efforts of being "positively proactive" while in the DoD IDES process! :D

Hello, I have Hypersomnia as well and it causes trouble for me at work. I asked was there a profile for it and they told me they don’t really know what to put. I was wondering could you provide an example of your profile?

Hypersomnia is incompatible with driving, operating any dangerous equipment, arming up..... Please continue to talk to the patient advocate/ombudsmen.

Yes sir, I just had to google what a ombudsmen was and I see the contact info for them here on fort Bragg. Thank you!
