Piloting after MEB

Greetings team,

I am seeking guidance for both a potential MEB and life after that. If this is formatted poorly, I should be on a different forum, or if there are not enough details I do apologize and would appreciate any corrections or guidance.

I understand that everyone’s case is different and small details can change an expected outcome, but I am seeking guidance on what I should start preparing for or recommendations on where to go for answers.

Background:

I am nearing the end of my enlistment and looking to discuss with my flight surgeon starting an MEB. I’d like to start looking at the potential for medical retirement. I am close with BOMC and after some discussion, there is a belief that I may be at 30% for a condition which I am currently on a C2 profile for alone.

At my ARILO I was asked if I'd like to separate since it would be easy to push that way if it fit my goals which at the time it did not. Present day I am looking to separate at 14 years but if medical retirement is still an option for me I'd like to get some more info as it may have implications on my future career goals (Enlisted USAF reserve and commercial piloting when not on status).

Currently, I am a private pilot student and have deferred acceptance to a Part 141 university for a professional pilot degree with aspirations to fly for a living. During my first exam, I did have all of the required documentation from the FAA aeromedical waiver, just in case. After asking if I had everything listed in the waiver guidance and does it affected my everyday function from flying, to which I answered yes then no, then he just signed my medical without inspecting it.

Specific questions:

My concerns are that after being MEB’d, what are the chances I can renew my FAA flying class 1 medical examination?

If there are any pilots here, how do you go about the MEB while protecting your ability to keep first class medical?

Are there any resources I can reach out to or consult?

To clarify future career goals (end of paragraph 5) I am aware I can not get medical separated or retired and join the Reserves. I don't mean to come across as this type of person but I am looking for what is more lucrative while protecting my flying career.

Ideally, I'd like insurance from the Government for me and my family and a small income on the side while I go to school. I'll do anything that opens that door but I know medical separation would hinder that and you cant unopen that specific door

(Hey they got 14 more than decent years out of me is it that bad to try to set myself up? I loved my time and what I do, I'm just tired.)

Its pretty hard to get a MEB just because you want one. Assuming you are AF they tend to try to keep you in with restrictions. At 14 years your best bet is to re-up and eventually they could try to steer you towards full IDES or you hit your 20 years.

Mr. Gately represented my wife well and I am sure he can answer your questions if you reach out to him with questions.
