Greetings I recently got my P&E results for depression the examiner wrote down occupational and social impairment with reduced reliability and productivity. which from my understanding is 30% but I have symptoms for both 50% and 70% such as suicidal ideation. I was put on a board for a suicide attempt related to combat experiences. Any insight would be appreciated I just could just use some peace of mind thank you!

Per the VA's 38 CFR § 4.7

§ 4.7 Higher of two evaluations.

Where there is a question as to which of two evaluations shall be applied, the higher evaluation will be assigned if the disability picture more nearly approximates the criteria required for that rating. Otherwise, the lower rating will be assigned.

However, as stated in previous threads, this does not always happen. Document any and all symptoms you have related to mental health in accordance with the VASRD; study it and know it - I can not stress the importance of this enough. Many people don't realize things like "crying spells" or "feelings of hopelessness" are not in the "language" the VA uses to rate mental health; you need to translate what you're experiencing using their terminology, and your examiner MUST endorse suicidal ideation on your C&P exam if you have a documented attempt.

I wish you all the best, keep your head up and keep charging - we are all here to support you, and please reach out in times of need.
