I am a Marine. As a Sergeant (E-5) I started the PEB/MEB at almost exactly 9yrs TIS, 5yrs TIG. At that point I was in the promotion "below zone". I was placed on TDRL at 12yrs TIS, 8yrs TIG.

A week ago I received PDRL with an "Official retirement" date of September 1, 2016. That would put me at 16yrs 10 months TIS.

The maximum an E-5 can serve is 13yrs before being separated for HYT.

Wouldn't this make me automatically promoted to SSgt
