That is an odd situation. I can offer this: You cannot receive retired pay and active duty pay simultaneously.

Recall to Active Duty
If you have been recalled to active duty from retirement, your retired pay is stopped, and you are placed on the payroll of an active duty Branch of Service. Please consider the following points regarding your pay.

Retired Pay Stops When You Are Recalled
When you are recalled to active duty, your retired pay stops the day before you resume active duty. This may have an impact on your financial situation, especially if you have allotments.

Re-establish Your Allotments
Allotments paid from your retired pay account are stopped while you are in a recalled (active duty) status. If you want your allotments to continue to be paid while you are on active duty, you must work with your Branch of Service or use myPay to have them deducted from your active duty pay.

Army Announces Voluntary Recall of Retired Soldiers for COVID-19 Response

The U.S. Army is reaching out to gauge the interest of our retired officers, noncommissioned officers and Soldiers who would be willing to assist with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic response effort should their skills and expertise be required.

These extraordinary challenges require equally extraordinary solutions and that's why we're turning to you -- trusted professionals capable of operating under constantly changing conditions. When the Nation called -- you answered, and now, that call may come again.

If interested and you remain qualified to serve in any of the following health care specialties: 60F: Critical Care Officer; 60N: Anesthesiologist; 66F: Nurse Anesthetist; 66S: Critical Care Nurse; 66P: Nurse Practitioner; 66T: ER Nurse; 68V: Respiratory Specialist; 68W: Medic - we need to hear from you STAT!

If you are working in a civilian hospital or medical facility, please let us know. We do not want to detract from the current care and treatment you are providing to the Nation.

While this is targeted at medical specialties, if you are interested in re-joining the team and were in a different specialty, let us know your interest.

If interested please contact Human Resources Command, Reserve Personnel Management Directorate, at [email protected] or call 502-613-4911, and provide your phone number, address, email, and MOS/Branch.

Were your medically retired PDRL or TDRL?

You might want to look at AR 601-10 chapter 2.

“(6) Not have a physical profile serial 3 or 4 in the physical capacity (P), upper extremities (U), lower extremities (L), eyes (E) or psychiatric (S) factors. Soldiers in this category will not be recalled to active duty. Retirees with medical conditions (AR 40–501, chap 3) that require evaluation by a Medical Evaluation Board and/or referral to a Physical Evaluation Board will not be recalled to active duty. Retirees will not be referred to Medical Military Occupational Specialty Retention Boards (MMRB). Retirees that have significant hearing loss and require additional audio logical services, including Speech Recognition Testing, must have it performed prior to determining recall status.”

It appears that medically retired soldiers wouldn’t be eligible for recall.

Not to hijack OP - I posted a question yesterday regarding what "Vote 1" means in the IPEB process for this specific reason. I have a newborn at home with some major health issues (we just got out of NICU and are in a shelter-in-place area). I am concerned that this recall of health professionals may unfavorably impact my PEB decision even though I am not in one of the specific specialties mentioned in the recall. It is a medical no-brainer that I should be separated and my NMA corroborates this, but given the PEB's track record with inequitable treatment of medical personnel it is very concerning to me and my family. Just venting a bit I suppose. Hopefully someone here knows what the Vote process means in the PEB...

Just out of curiosity what do you do? I am a surgeon and am finally being granted a fpeb on appeal after two prior peb’s found me fit. It’s hard enough to get a fair look as a medical professional per the reports and I am definitely concerned about how this crisis will impact my fpeb when it does happen after they resume.

I think that is a reasonable concern. The PEB process is a personnel process, not a medical one (The MEB is all about medical). So personnel concerns reign.

Its 3rd party info, but I asked my PEBLO about STOPLOSS and halts and he said PDRLs with Retirement orders can not be Stoploss'ed nor recalled, but I also didn't ask for any AFI reference. I am a USAF case also.

As with anything, I take it with a grain of salt until I see writing and or Regs
