You are entitled to a Retirement Home Station of Choice.
A retirement is a retirement is a retirement.... It's in the JFTR (Joint Federal Travel Regulations).
Unless you came into the service from outside the lower 48 (and a couple of other exceptions), they will subsidize your move anywhere within the lower 48.
Make sure to read your retirement orders to make sure the retirement language is on them so you can get yourself set up with transportation & briefings.
Although many retirees do move within their first year (post retirement), you can also extend your retirement relocation move for up to 5 yrs. post retirement. BUT, you have to re-apply every year and there are deadlines and cut-offs.
Be sure to double check with your branch of service on the specifics of this if you need to delay for medical treatment, kids in last year of school, etc.
