SBP Survivor Benefit Plan please advise

Greetings All
I was officially retired from the Army June2015 after a career ending neck injury during routine airborne operations.

We were enrolled in the SBP survivor benefit plan without our consent or knowledge. We were billed for this too without our consent. After a couple years of fighting (they acknowledged we NEVER signed up for this so disenrolled us) we were able to get our family disenrolled but they are still pursuing us for the so called "balance" of over 6,000 dollars.

The people at DFAS admit we should never have been enrolled without our consent, yet we somehow remain responsible for a balance for a debt from a programmed we never asked for, never needed, never wanted, or never signed up for. They admit they automatically enrolled us without our consent. But they still send us bills for the balance.

We have tried talking to them on the phone, used an RSO, written letters, tried to use a VSO at the county office who said he was helpless.

How can we stop this nightmare? or prevent being eventually garnished for this? We receive monthly statements showing accruing interest. DFAS has sent us letters stating we are no longer enrolled but Im afraid someday theyre going to take half a years pension to pay back "interest" on our remaining "balance" for a completely bogus debt.

This SBP is MORE proof the government is bilking veterans. How many just give up and pay it or kill themselves pounding their heads against an automated algorithmic bureaucracy?

Any help, advice, or experience with this problem is much appreciated especially if you have the solution-
WF

Re: SBP Problem

If one wanted to write the Director, DFAS-Cleveland:

Robert A. Edwards, Director
DFAS (Cleveland)

Anthony J. Celebrezze Federal Building
1240 E 9th St.
Cleveland, OH 44199

Your narrative above with the exception of the last two sentences could be part of a letter.
Evidence should be enclosed.

Ron

Ensure your letter begins with: Dear Mr. Edwards:

Also, I changed the address from the generic address in Indianapolis.
