Title 32 Technician Medical Retirement Scenarios (Please limit posts to "Technician Medical Retirements")

Has ABC called you yet? They should call you and then the interim payments will start. It was probably 2-3 months before interim payments started for me
ABC called me the middle of January told me they received my package Dec 23 and it was being sent to DFAS and to expect 6 to 9 months processing. Really they went over all the same stuff HR did, they never did mention interim payments to me. They told me due to COVID everything was going to take longer.

They called me a few weeks after i separated. Di you get a number? Id call them and ask.

Just giving an update for any technician out there getting out medically. I talk with my HR and she told me I will get interim pay but it's still going to take a long time even for that. As of now I haven't been in pay status for 7 weeks and have not been paid interim yet.
Jmc81, when you submitted SF 3107 and SF 3112, Did you submit your completion of your SSDI application and the letter your Dr. makes his assessment of your disability to not work?

I did the SSDI application and sent HR the confirmation of that and the Dr letters and supervisor statement. Back in December I think. I don't remember the SF 3107 I do remember the other forms. I might have done the SF 3107 with HR person I was working with in November. She may have filled out most of it that why I don't remember it.

I have an update for T32 disability ret, there phone system is down, so after mailing my packet on Feb 16, it ran into problems with the post office, it should have arrived by the 18th but it didn’t. I did priority express, the carrier attempted to deliver on 19th, but there closed in Saturday. So I finally saw that some one from abc- civ picked up my packet, I found an email to see if they started and had my packet, and I got a response within 10 min. So, I will post anything info I get and time it, thanks for keeping this post open. Here is the email for T32 national guard techs, [email protected]

Thanks for the information I will definitely use the email to check the status of my package next week.

Got a call from the HRC on Mar 1, just to find out my HR missed up on a couple of things, and so did I, but it was an easy fix, filled paperwork out and had to mail it again. So my packet is on hold until they get my paperwork and HR paperwork. The person at ABC-C is a reservist, so I’m hoping after all the info is received he will work on it fast. Seemed caring about the process and getting it done fast.

Hello, another update. Got a call from HRC ,March 15, got the initial counseling how the process is going to start, how much my first year of high 3 @ 60% and then after that the 40% till I hit retirement age. I’m waiting for the email of my packet that he said I should receive and to download it to send to OPM.

I received a letter March 5th from army benefits center stating that the normal disability has been denied. My disability package is going to the special disability provisions for dual status employees. So it took about 2 1/2 months from the time ABC received it to deny it.

And I have another update hopefully I get this figured out and fixed it's not a good one. My Blue Cross Blue shield insurance I found out when I went to the pharmacy has been dropped. I was very afraid of this and I went over it many times with OPM about my fears of separating from federal service while waiting for OPM ABC to process the disability retirement and my insurance being dropped, over and over I was reassured this won't happen. They told me I would have to back pay my portion of the insurance when my pay came though. So I'm praying it's just a mistake and will be fixed easily. If push comes to shove I will hire an attorney cause I have written proof that I would not lose insurance while in the limbo disability retirement status.

So for all that are going through the disability retirement. I have lost my insurance and it's the norm when going through this process. The government pushes us out the door knowing it will take a very long time to complete the retirement but will send the insurance company a termination of benefits. I have been told I should only be without insurance for 2 months but honestly the timeline has not ever been in my favor. Crazy thing is I was not notified by anyone just went to get a prescription and you don't have insurance anymore. I have been told by a few different departments to save my receipts and when the process is complete my insurance will be backdated I'll just have to fill out a bunch of paperwork and jump through hoops to get my money back. So I'm fairly irritated, not only do I go months without being paid I have to go with a family of five without insurance also waiting for the government which is not ran very well to complete its job. I can't imagine what could possibly go wrong with this scenario. So it's a very good idea to have some money saved up. Unless I just have people that don't know what they are doing.

By the way the this email did work for me but he told me I'll be contacted next week, why do something this week when it can be put off to next week . I will stop be cynical now. ;)

That sucks, when they gave me the counseling on Tuesday, he gave me the number to call if I had questions, it’s the same one from the website and remembered it. So I asked him, are the lines still jacked up? And his response was silent for like 5 seconds, and responded yes. Hey I thought if you paid out of pocket for the FEHB you could keep it? That’s what my HR at the facility told me. But, I have Tricare prime from the getting medically retired.

I'm supposed to get paid back whatever I pay to providers minus what I would normally pay if I send the paperwork work for each instance and recipes maybe in a couple months. I might be bummed up to 100 VA rating not sure if I would wonna go the champva route for insurance if that happens. I should get a decision in 2 to 3 weeks with VA. That worked out well for you to have Tricare.

Is anyone on here ahead of me on this process of being medically retired from FERS as a dual status military technician? If if so could you tell me how long you are without health insurance? Do you get your health insurance when interim payment start up, cuz that would be huge versus when the entire retirement application is complete. If anybody has any of these answers it would be super appreciated and helpful.

Hello, I’ve been wondering how FERS disability retirement affects military retirement pay when I hit 60. I decided to email the representative about the tech disability and military retirement pay once we hit our age to draw, he replied back and said we get both, so that’s a good thing. Just wanted to let y’all know. Now if MRSA passes, I wonder if we still can get paid our military retirement.

Good morning, here’s and update, this morning I checked my email, it showed LES available, So I checked it and shows on the general tab, cumulative retirement FERS an amount, and on net pay also. It says it will pay on April 7 in my account.

My timeline for FERS disability
Nov 15 2021 completed the application for retirement with my HR department.

Nov 24 last day at work as per the only staying in 30 days not from military retirement but from notice of not being fit for duty.

Nov 29 army benefits center could not process retirement without separation/ retirement orders but AFPC is behind lost little time here and push as much as I could to get them

Dec 21 military retirement orders were sent to army benefits center my FERS retirement starts again.

Dec 30 last day in pay status transfer to LWOP.

Jan 7ish army benefits center called went over what my projected pay would be same stuff as state HR told me 6-9 months for pay

Feb 7 officially separated from the federal government and this is when I lost insurance but was told nothing would change. I was not contacted by anyone. They give me 30 day after that with insurance so became uninsured mar7. Called insurance and HR and was told I will have to pay for medical expenses out of pocket and will be reimbursed by insurance after retirement is complete. Didn't find out till March 16.

Mar 28 Army benefits center HR specialist notified me by call up to 8 weeks from that day to get interim payments, and up to 6 months for it to be adjudicated. After adjudication insurance would kick in. So potentially end of May for entering payments and end of September for retirement to be completed.
This is my timeline it sounds like other people have had better timelines I also just received today a letter saying they don't have my proof of applying for social security which I'd already emailed to OPM. 4 and 1/2 months ago I turned in my application for retirement through my HR and it could potentially be six more months putting it out over 10 months for the total completion. I'll update how my process goes maybe it will help someone. There are many government departments that work on this the employing HR department, OPM, Army benefits center, DFAS and social security. So it gets a little bit confusing.

I'm happy for you that sounds pretty awesome you might get your money really soon, at least your interim pay.
