***Update***

Spoke with a VA rep earlier about 45 minutes ago that said my proposed ratings were forwarded to the PEB yesterday March 4th. Couldn't get anyone to give me the proposed ratings so that's a bummer.

That said, my PEBLO told me that I had to be found unfit for the VA to send the proposed ratings to the PEB but I couldn't get through to the PEB to figure out where my case is. The waiting game continues...
who did you contact in order to see that the VA forwarded your findings to the PEB?

@Big30 I didn't contact anyone specifically. I just called the 800 VA number and when I asked about my claim status they said that it had been forwarded. However, when I called yesterday, I was told that as of yesterday my case was in a pending final decision state.

Aw ok. My claimed closed Nov 7 and I got my “proposed” ratings when I called in Dec. I called the VA today and the rep said “there has been no new movement on my case.” I was just trying to find out what was going on because the PEB said “they sent my case to the VA.” The VA says “there’s been no request and that they sent my ratings back in Nov (with nothing new requested or sent).” An my lawyer said ”in the system I’m unfit, proposed rating is in and the VA hasn’t sent the DOD anything yet.”

Goodness man. Just when I think that I have this entire process figured out, something else comes along and completely blows my entire understanding of the process out of the water.

You would expect that if your case is just floating around in the ether with no one actioning it that something would be done about that but I guess that's naive to think that way. Please keep us updated with any progress that you mind find out soon.

Most definitely will. Been on this journey since May ‘23. Tried calling the PEB today as well voicemail each time. I’ll keep the thread updated.

I did my weekly call to the VA today and was told my claim is "awaiting decision." Is this toward the end of the process or what?

It is crazy reading through all these forums and seeing quick timelines and getting my hopes up and then seeing long timelines like @Big30's and getting real nervous. I will probably have to put in a medical extension. My EAS is in 4 months, makes me wish I never did this process and just separated.

You will not need to do a medical extension if you are in IDES. Being "fit to separate" includes finishing the IDES process.

I’m right there with you. My EAS was Nov 4, 2023 I did have to do a medical 1yr extension to continue/complete this process. I’d rather just separated than keep going this long. When I completed my extension I had already been accepted to the PEB, completed my VA exams and VA claim closed weeks after my extension was submitted. Been waiting on these final ratings for a hot minute.

A year extension is insane. Is there something that you think is causing the delay? You should seriously consider submitting a congressional.

Question here for the group. How long did it take for someone to finally email you your proposed ratings? My case closed in the app and each time I call, I don't mention anything regarding IDES or medboard but the rep always finds it and tells me to contact my PEBLO for my proposed ratings.

The problem is that the PEBLO won't tell me my proposed ratings either which makes me think that she doesn't have them or even know what they are because she tells me that she has to wait for the final disposition from the PEB.

I got so far as to be told 1 individual rating last night for one of my conditions, but the rep told me that the final overall decision hadn't been made yet and couldn't provide a total rating. He said that I would be getting a 30 or 40 page document in the mail in the next week or so but it feels like I'm just getting the runaround and that letter in the mail isn't coming.

I called 7 times in a row within a 30 minute period until someone sent them over. I think it's more of a numbers game than waiting. If they can see the document on their end, you can just call back-to-back until someone doesn't care. It helps to mention the exact name of the document and date it was uploaded.

"Good morning, I'm trying to download a document from my little VA app here, but the app doesn't seem to be working - I'm sorry to have to do this through you, but could you email it over to me? Last time the app was working, it was called "Proposed Ratings/Rating Narrative" in my folder from <date here>."

That was basically verbatim what I said to each one until someone just said "yeah no problem" and they sent it over. More of like a 2 minute "tech sucks, this is just a quick admin thing" call than anything else.

It's definitely worth it to keep trying over and over if you're still in the dark, it can really alleviate a lot of anxiety once you have an idea where things may be going.

Did you ever wind up getting a letter in the mail?

Not that I’m tracking normal processing from what I’ve been told this whole way. Trust me I know. I won’t have to complete the entire year extension once my findings come back and new EAS I’m done. Just signing it is huge though.

They may have made a note on your account. I received the letter via email first try. I’m not sure what advice you’ve received but I’d say maybe keep trying, although I know that’s not the best answer.

Just hang in there. The retirement, tricare for life, and VA $$ is truly a life changing amount, Especially if youre able to find a job youre able to do. Thankfully Ive gotten a ton of interest for remote project/program management jobs that are paying in the 120-140 range. Thats no small amount but is certainly only a middle class income, but combined with VA tax free you are making some serious money. SAVE SAVE SAVE, get out of and stay out of debt, and use all your VA benefits to the maximum benefit both financially and personally.

Kind of a loophole I found but something to consider. I have my proposed ratings at 100% and with 100% comes a 1 time total student loan forgiveness. You COULD enroll in school using student loans and taking out excess to cover all your living expenses. Pay off ALL your debt with this $$... then its all forgiven. The only time I've ever seen where you could successfully borrow your way out of debt. However, the American way is getting ahead through clawing and smashing not playing nicely.

@usmc0612 @USMC-0341 - either of you reach out to your PEBLOs today?

The newest JDETS tracker was pushed out this past Wed (06MAR2024). My package is still being voted on, but it's with the Presiding Officer now.

I haven't, sometimes I feel like my PEBLO knows as much as I do lol. I was accepted by the PEB 4 days after you so I figure either our cases are together or I am a week behind you.

Is that student loan forgiveness a state benefit?
I would like to add that everyone, regardless of your rating should understand veteran and disability benefits. Using the Post 9/11 to get the housing allowance and with a disability rating, we most likely rate the VR&E. The VR&E is four years worth of education and certificates, also providing a housing allowance. I finished my bachelors using TA and plan to just do easy classes to get a second bachelors or masters, for the purpose of getting the extra money only.

It is a federal benefit under student loan forgiveness. Anyone rated 100% or TDIU is eligible for a ONE TIME ONLY total student loan forgiveness.

VR&E is a good benefit but it does not pay the full E5 BAH. What you can do is enroll in the Vet Tec program and get full E5 BAH. You can even simultaneously enroll in Vet Tec and you GI bill and get paid a double housing allowance. That's right, E5 BAH times 2.
