Finally got notified they are wanting to submit a narsum to the IRLO board. Commander and I are on the same page, and I drafted him the impact statement. At what point do I state I want to be rated for DoD purposes only? I have a rating I don't want messed with I need just 3 months to be within 90 days of 20 years. Pretty sure its going to take longer than 6 months and I will be auto extended past my enlistment.
Are you saying you dont want the VA to rate you? I believe that is called electing the LDES instead of the IDES. You make that choice if the IRILO comes back for a full MEB with your PEBLO.
No I want the IDES. There is a point where you can tell the VA only to rate your conditions for the DOD. I think it should be the spot where they ask me to submit for other conditions that aren't duty limiting. They then will give the rating to the Air Force for the medboard. Then if for some reason the ratings are higher I can submit for a rating increase with the VA at a later date.
What you seem to be referring to is the LDES process. Under IDES, the VA rates your conditions and the Air Force will use the VA rating for your unfitting condition(s) - this will be your DOD rating. But you will still have an overall VA rating separate from your DOD rating.
Unless I'm misunderstanding... and you're saying you only want to be rated for one condition using IDES.
If that's the case (I'd advise against it), when it's time to submit your 526EZ form to your MSC, just list the one condition on the form and no other conditions. Just know, doing this will only get you a rating on that single condition; not all your conditions.
No I don't want to be rated for one condition, I want to be rated for what the air force finds me unfit for. IDES has the VA rate you but there is a specific spot you can say, hey VA rate me only for the DoD medical board, don't rate me for any VA compensation. They will then have you do the C&P exam and send your ratings back to the medboard. In doing so the AF can then medically retire or separate you and your existing VA ratings that are static don't get changed. Was hoping for a quick answer, now I have to find my notes that had it.
I could be wrong but I believe once they open up a claim it wont matter since the VA is already in your files, the VA can change your rating. I would dig deep into it.
