When a Marine is diagnosed with either Narcolepsy II or Hypersomnolence, are they afforded a period of time to stabilize treatment with their PCM or are they automatically given a p3 due to the type of condition these are (not likely to improve)? I am seeing mixed reviews on if a member will be given a medical retention determination period of up to 6 months v. an immediate p3.

I was diagnosed with type 12NOV24, it wasn't until 23JUN25 I was referred to IDES. I do believe my PCM was trying to keep me in or just sheer incompetence. Once I got word that the chain of command became aware of my narcolepsy, I had already started treatment with my sleep doctor. I was unaware that Narcolepsy was an unfitting condition. Hope this helps.

That's a tough situation to be in with the mixed info out there. Usually, it comes down to how much the condition impacts your ability to perform your duties while you're working with your PCM on a treatment plan.
