Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay (CRDP) Calculation

I am currently drawing National Guard disability retirement pay in the amount of 5234.00 a month (E-8 with over 30 years at 70%).

I also receive VA disability pay at the 100% P&T rate of 3938.57.

Currently, I am less than age 60 so my National Guard disability retirement pay is reduced by the amount of my VA disability pay.

I meet all requirements for CRDP other than having reached the age of 60. When I reach age 60, will I receive both payments in full? I have been told yes, no, and only partially depending on who I ask. Is there anyone here in this situation that can tell me whether I will finally receive both full payments at age 60 or not? If not, how will my pay change?

So the most you can get is the combination of your earned longevity pension + VA disability. Right now you are getting paid at 70% but that's not the same as your earned guard pension. So you would need to calculate the value of your guard pension and add that amount to your disability pay. If that total is greater than your current total pay then you will get the difference via CRDP.

So no, you don't get both if you mean all of your chapter 61 pension + VA disability. It all depends on how much your guard pension is worth. Right now you get your VA pay and $1,296 chapter 61 pay after deducting your VA pay. So if the value of your earned guard pay + VA disability pay is greater than $5,234 then you will see an increase in pay of the difference. If your VA disability + Guard pay = $5,234 or less than you don't get any additional pay at age 60.

Thank you for explaining this in a way I can finally understand. The combination of my regular Guard retirement + VA is a little over 600.00 higher than what I am currently receiving so that will be a nice little increase at age 60. Thanks again.
