Not quite. You’ll never actually get it in the mail. You can try calling the VA and sometimes you’ll get lucky and they tell you, or when you get your PEB findings they will give you the letter and packet with your proposed ratings.

You very well could get a decision, but I’d it helps your mind yes you would be extended. You cannot separate from the military while going through the process. It’s one of the forms we sign when initially getting placed into IDES.

The craziest part of this whole timeline is that a knee rebuttal took 2 months from intent to signing NARSUM which fucked you by taking you to the government shutdown. Without the rebuttal your package is sent in early September and the rate they were getting back to people, you’d probably be done

Unless he knows something I don’t, I’m not sure if they can “force” you through IDES. AFAIK I had to sign a waiver, acknowledging I wanted to do IDES over LDES and it was uploaded into LIMDU SMART. Not sure if the process differs elsewhere but that’s how it was done for me in the Navy.

Im just curious but if you hit the 30% which is retired and 100% P&T VA why do a formal? Isn’t that theoretically everyone’s target result and it’s PTDRL? Just seems like you’d be extending your time to the end by a lot for an increase that gives you the same result.

NMA is essentially a statement from your CO about whether you should be retained, have a future in the service and their opinion on how your duties are impacted. Pretty straightforward.
