Hello! I did 9 years AD AF and am now in my 3rd year in the reserve. While active I was diagnosed with Chronic PTSD and other mental health disorders and a torn rotator cuff sustained while deployed to Afghanistan. The AF Reserve denied my transfer to them for 1.5 years because of these issues but this was finally resolved after a congressional inquiry. Now I am in the AF Reserve, but I am concerned that I will be MEB'd or separated if I get treatment for these conditions or get my VA Disability for them. My question is what is the process? After I get my VA Rating, can the Air Force Reserve use that information to kick me out? I know the 8 year rule means conditions are presumed to be service connected. I've heard about a 15 year rule? Can someone explain that to me? I'd like to get treatment and I'd like to file for the claim I deserve, but if it jeopardizes my pension since I won't make 20 years, then is it right for me to just wait and file after I retire?
Thanks in advance!
